“Yesterday Apple rolled out its new iTunes Pass service to Japan, allowing users to use a Passbook card to add credit to an iTunes account from an Apple Retail Store,” Mike Beasley reports for 9to5Mac.
“Starting today, the offer is also available in the United States and Australia,” Beasley reports. “Users in Canada, Germany, and the UK are also reporting seeing the feature, though it’s not officially listed on Apple’s website for those countries just yet.”
Beasley reports, “To take advantage of this new program, you need to use the iTunes Store app on an iOS device to obtain an iTunes Pass.”

So it begins ….
I’m excited. I’ll probably never use it to put iTunes credit on my account from an Apple Store, but I see this as just being the groundwork for a much larger payment system that will extend far beyond credit towards iTunes/App Store/iBook Store. Gotta start somewhere, right?

Work out any kinks now before roll out bigger service.
It’s fairly hidden at the moment. You have to click the redeem option in the iTunes Store app and there is an option for it at the bottom. Methinks payments won’t come until next year. Let’s see if Apple can surprise in that front.

This is definitely an awesome idea! I love it. I would say this makes perfect sense but Starbucks has been doing this perfectly for a couple of years now. Now I don’t need to hassle with scratching a card and having it leftover in my house
