First photos of Apple’s 5.5-inch iPhone 6′s purported display part posted online

“Apple is gearing up to launch two larger iPhone sizes this fall: a 4.7-inch version and a 5.5-inch model,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac. “While the 4.7-inch version has been leaked extensively with a thinner body design, the 5.5-inch model only saw its first significant leak in the form of a dummy model last week.

“Today, Sonny Dickson has exclusively shared with us a pair of photos claimed to be showing the LCD display component for that larger iPhone with 5.5-inch screen,” Gurman reports. “The photos show the display attached to a ruler that indicates a screen with a diagonal measurement of approximately 14cm.”

Gurman reports, “That 14cm converts to the 5.5-inches heavily rumored for the next-generation Apple smartphone. ”

  1. This could be 5.5″ screen from Lenovo’s smartphone or from few others, it does not mean a thing.

That said, 4/4.7/5.5 screen size triad makes sense: each size adds one row of icons: four, five and six, depending on size.

    1. As usual, Apple takes the time to get it right. The large screen sizes in Android are accommodated in most cases by simply expanding existing small screen graphics to a larger size without improving resolution. Hurried, half-assed features for the sake of an impressive spec sheet are what Android and Samsung are all about. Apple will show them how to do it elegantly and correctly.

    2. I’m posting this from my brother’s new Android phone. Been playing with it for a couple days now. After all these years, Android is still unrefined garbage. I want a big screen iPhone like you can’t imagine, but I’d rather have an old 3.5″ iPhone 4S than deal with this crap.

    3. Just trolling for a response, anonymous LOL? OMG!

You can troll all you want, but iPhones will continue to sell tens of millions more that all other flagship smartphones combined. That includes your beloved Samsung G5 and its predecessors that so shamelessly copied aspects of Apple’s innovative genius. And Apple will continue to pull in the lion’s share of profits. LOL indeed!

  2. I have a ruler too! I can measure 14 cm, 5.5″ just like he can!

Apparently the point here is supposed to be that a 5.5″ iPhone display actually exists, fortifying the rumor. And then there will be the real thing in a few months.
