According to a report from Korean-language UDN, non-Apple smartphone makers are facing a tough 3rd quarter and are being forced to adjust inventory in repsonse.
Supply chain sources told UDN that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 shipment target was reduced from from 21 million in the 2nd quarter to 15 million in the 3rd quarter while Galaxy S4 unites were also reduced from 6 million to 5 million units. As Samsung Galaxy series smartphones see lower sales, Samsung processor and panel supply chain’s performance will also be negatively affected.
Apple iPhone 6 is already affecting the 3rd quarter smartphone market, according to the UDN report, as industry sources believe that consumers are likely waiting for Apple to unveil their next-gen iPhone. This pause in the market is negatively affecting sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and S5, causing Samsung to cut Galaxy Samsung S5 supply chain vendor orders by as much as 25%.

You’ll switch to a cheaper, no-contract plan. It doesn’t matter if you have less than 2 years with your phone. I had two iPhone 5S’s that I bought at Christmas time (6 months ago!). Now, I’m off the contract and it cost me nothing and saving about $25 per phone per month. The only downside is that any new phones that I buy will not be subsidized.
I have one of the legacy unlimited data plans (Thanks, Steve) and am not interested in a shared bucket of limited data.
Just a heads up.You may want to check this out. I am currently on a AT&T five person Family plan.. AT&T was pushing me to go with a Family share plan .At first look it was a good ,deal would save me a hundred dollars a month. I dug a little farther and found that it was a good deal until you upgraded your phone. i.e.. Jump to the next iPhone 6. Then the price would increase hundred and $120 a month and lose the three phones that are on unlimited plans. It’s kind of shady after you read the small print.
Can’t wait…my current contract with Sprint is due to expire in October 2014.
Those figures are overblown. Samsung barely sold 11+ million SGS5 to this day, nothing like 21 million until the end of this quarter.
But . . . but . . . but . . . the Galaxy S5 is the future here now! Why don’t you people understand that?!? It has a fingerprint sensor and a heart rate monitor that sort of work! It’s bigger than the puny iPhone (but with lower battery life)! It has USB! It’s all you could ever want!
Really? How do we know? I thought Samsung does not report numbers like Apple does. As an.AAPL stockholder I hope all these rumors are right.
