Pioneer Corporation today announced one of the first aftermarket in-dash car multimedia systems to provide Apple CarPlay, allowing consumers the ability to upgrade the vehicle they already own to the smarter, safer and more fun way to use iPhone in the car. CarPlay compatibility will be available in early summer 2014 via a firmware update to the five 2014 NEX in-dash multimedia receivers.
Utilizing large, in-dash Pioneer LCD displays, CarPlay featuring Siri voice control, gives iPhone users the features while allowing them to stay focused on the road. With CarPlay, consumers with iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5 can use Siri to make and receive calls, compose and respond to text messages, use Apple Maps for navigation and listen to their music, podcasts and iTunes RadioSM. In addition to a host of on-board navigation and embedded entertainment options, Pioneer’s 2014 in-dash multimedia systems boast a more advanced and responsive user interface than previous Pioneer in-dash receivers as well as many sound quality, convenience and safety enhancements.

Velcro is cheaper and looks better.
The car manufacturers better get on board with Apple or their customers are just going to keep their old cars and install a CarPlay Pioneer system. Once you spend $700 for a car stereo system, you become a little reluctant to ditch it for a new car with MS Sync.
Or buy the new car with the lowest cost stereo. Then rip that crap out and put a CarPlay unit in somewhere else.
Gotta laugh, people just love to deride Carplay graphics yet even a perfunctory look at this shows just how superior it is to Pioneers long thought out and confused efforts. You can see why iOS7 had to simplify icons so that everything is clear and easy to distinguish and stands out, even if the exact form could arguably be better. But probably easier to ease back from somewhat over bright versions than to have to make fussier ones more easily legible.
Ok, which one fits in my wife’s Toyota Avalon 2005. I am so ready to trash that JBL unit.
