Alleged iPhone 6 Specs Leaked: Ultra-thin 0.22-inch case, 2.6GHz A8 Chip, Ultra-Retina display, more

A 4.7-inch, 389 ppi “Ultra-Retina” display with a 2.6GHz A8 chip, Touch ID, iOS 8, 0.22″ thin, activity tracking capabilities, with more of an iPad mini-like look.

Those are the basics of Apple’s iPhone 6, according to Sonny Dickson.

“Dickson says the iPhone 6 will be just 0.22-inches thick, thinner even than the iPhone 5s, which is 0.30,” Brandon Russell reports for TechnoBuffalo. “That difference doesn’t sound like a lot, but I can guarantee it’ll be hugely noticeable in your hand. Add a case to that (if that’s your thing), and the device will be no thicker than an iPhone currently is now. You’d expect the iPhone to get a little thinner if the device is indeed getting larger, so a decrease in that department isn’t all that unexpected. It gets better.”

“Dickson claims that the iPhone 6 will also sport an “Ultra-Retina” display, which he confirmed would be the actual marketing term Apple uses when the device is released,” Russell reports. “Dickson also mentions that more iOS 8 screenshots are expected to hit Weibo, so we’ll see just how accurate his information is soon.”

  1. I’m sure it will be noticeable in your hand – it will be harder to hold if it were 0.22″ thick. Apple, give us an iPhone 6 that is 0.35″ thick and use all that extra space for a 2-day battery.

    1. Right on. Apple needs to quit obsessing with thin. People don’t care if it’s ultrathin. People care about the features. Longer battery life. Even better camera. None of the iPhones have been too thick. It’s a phone not a credit card.

      1. “Thinness” is just one aspect of the overall design and craftsmanship that Apple brings to their devices. I definitely think people care about the superior craftsmanship that the iPhone has over other knockoff smartphones.

        1. Thin has nothing to do with craftsmanship. Craftsmanship means doing something well. It means quality workmanship. And knock off phones have nothing to do with whether or not Apple does something properly. You’re trying too hard to act like your opinion is more important than others. That’s just not true. It’s just an opinion. Like everyone else’s.

    2. Uhh, yeah… just like the iPod touch is hard to hold, right? 0.24″ (6.1mm).

0.22″ would be 5.6mm… tying last year’s Umeox X5 (Not sure if that ever got released)

  2. A few things. If the 6 were not to be 4.5-5 inches Apple PR would have leaked the contrary to the usual suspects by now.

Second, I think the new iPhone will be a “materials” play. Think about it. The Apple construction and design advantage is largely negated by the generic/ugly cases people put them in. I think playing to their strengths they will be using the “sapphire glass” display and materials to strongly suggest everyone go caseless and really drive “envy” sales.

    1. Interesting idea. I have the 5s in one of apple’s leather cases and it all FEELS like one thing, not one phone in one case (my wife’s has an otter box and it def feels like a phone in a case). I’d love to go caseless, would LOVE to, but it’s insurance I need against having to repair/replace the thing after a drop. If apple could come up with a phone that was gorgeous AND at least FELT protected, that’d be a win to me.

      1. I’m not sure what the big deal is. I have never used a case, and elected rather, to look after my phone. It doesn’t go into a pocket that hold change, and I have sold every iteration I’ve had for more than I paid – in pristine condition. If people are that careless with their phones. then maybe they should get a cheap plastic one?

        1. I don’t think Mark said he was perfect dude…just that he is careful with his stuff. I have owned two iPhones, two iPods a first gen iPad, as well as an iPad mini. They are all still in pristine condition…and were/are used daily. Have I ever dropped them? Yes. Do I have a case on any of them? No. Will one break someday? Perhaps! Your response to Mark was really uncalled for. Perhaps you are the one who was dropped on your head as a kid??

      2. Since iPhone 6 will be very thin, then maybe Apple will create a sturdy LiquidMetal case to compliment the look and feel light and safe at the same time! All four corners protection and grilled Apple logo design maybe 🙂
Otter is bulky ugly. But works!
        What do ya think?

  3. Apple PR would have leaked the contrary to the usual suspects by now.

Nope. Apple doesn’t talk about unannounced products. I worked in Phil’s organization for three and a half years.

  4. An iPhone that is 0.22 inches thick / thin is only 4.52mm. Makes no sense. First, holding that won’t be feel right (or comfortable) & how the hell are they gonna get a decent camera system in a body that small?

The current iPhone, at 7.6mm, doesn’t feel overly thick at all.

        1. Best case scenario – 7.2mm, which is still thin enough to implement a great quality camera system.

Worst case – no thinner than the 5th generation iPod Touch which is around 6.2mm.

  5. More leaks just in (I make them up as I go):
iPhone 6 will have a display on both sides.
iPhone 6 has a satellite transceiver.
iPhone 6 will use quantum computing graphics coprocessor.
iPhone 6 will replace the stainless steel bezel with platinum.
Apple will give a year’s supply of lollypops with purchase to all those suckers who believe this drivel.

  6. If the display really is 389 ppi @ 4.7inch that means this isn’t even a full HD display… Why on earth does Apple have to play silly games like this I’ll never know. Mobile devices have had full HD displays for almost 3 years now… so Apples new flagship is going to come out and be marketed as ‘ultra retina’ because it still can’t be called full HD yet… Also meaning that yet again we are stuck with a device that has a made up and non-standards based resolution, so the scaling of actual content weather it be 720P or 1080P will be off. This continued pattern of being different for the sake of being different and just so you can’t directly be compared to competitors is getting absurdly annoying. It’s not that hard to just use a standards based screen resolution and call it a day… Don’t give us a lower resolution with a new buzzword like ‘ultra retina’ to make it sound even better than the competition and think we won’t notice. *sigh*

    1. I doubt Apple is doing it to be different. It probably has more to do with battery life, case design (getting the phone as small as possible) and maybe supply constraints?

It would be nice if they did standardize, but I haven’t done much research to see if it even matters on screens this small.

      1. There are other phones out right now that have full HD screens, use IPS panels, are as thin or thinner than the iPhone 5S and get better battery life. I’d love if they’d stop talking about being better at design to benefit the consumer and actually BE better at design to benefit consumer. If making a device super super thin is getting in the way of using a higher resolution screen and a better battery life, then just don’t make it as bloody thin. I haven’t anecdotally encountered one person or read any article that ever complained that their phones were to thick, however I’ve encountered many and read in many places where the battery life wasn’t satisfactory. iPads are leading the pack in tablet battery life, they use all the extra space to cram a battery in to make using it for several days without a balancing act possible. They COULD do the same thing with the phone, especially considering the space having a larger screen would afford them; especially if they just kept the device the same thickness as the 5S. Alas, they probably won’t… bragging rights about how thin the phone is in compared to others and accomplishing that particular feat of engineering has more often than not, seemed more important than longer battery life.

        1. “There are other phones out right now that have full HD screens, use IPS panels, are as thin or thinner than the iPhone 5S and get better battery life.”

And what phone is this that does all this in one device?
Yes, there are full HD (1080p+) phones.
Yes, there are phones that use IPS panels.
Yes, there are phones that have longer battery life.

What one phone does all three in real world situations?

    1. I’ll believe it when I see it. The current A7 runs at 1.3Ghz on a 28nm die process. So now this we are to believe Apple will crank it up to 2.6Ghz on a 20nm die process without taking a hit on battery life? Doesn’t sound right.

I can see it probably going from 1.7Ghz to 2.0Ghz.. But nonetheless I agree with you, at 2.6Ghz the A8 Apple processor would destroy every other SoC out there.

    2. I can’t see 2.6GHz. Maybe it is capable of that in a burst mode or it could get there if you ran the clock that high. I don’t see Apple running it that fast all the time. The battery drain would be huge. This thing will be a monster in an iPad.

  7. again, nothing is really big on the new iphone 6, hopefully that the rumor or so called leaked information is not true, currently using iphone 5 didnt mind to change it to 5C or 5S, why? coz nothing really big has been changed, Apple look here is how you evolve before,
iPhone 3Gs = support 3G network (dont know if it’s true)
iPhone 4 = screen resolution i can say it really is something plus front camera plus facetime plus design plus battery life
iPhone 4S = retina display (that’s all basically) not even can support LTE
iPhone 5 = bigger screen, a tiny bit longer on battery life (not really especially if your connected on your LTE newtwork on the go) new earpiece? fair enough, thinner well i can say it’s ok, lighter that is a big YES
iPhone 5C = plastic design (WHAT!!!) different color (WHAT?!!!!) you just downgraded the iPhone 5 basically
iPhone 5S = finger print scanning that’s all, battery life?! where? gold champagne fair enough.

so realistically speaking consumer want something new I mean really new on tech, we are buying a more expensive new phone and suddenly we all will realize that it’s almost the same as our old one, well I bought Samsung Galaxy S4 and used it for a month or two, but it’s not really for me (no offense for android user) all i want to say is APPLE please wake up, as the consumer really want something new on your device….
