Screenshots of iOS 8: Healthbook, Preview, TextEdit icons leaked

The [below] screenshot claiming to represent iOS 8 just showed up on a Weibo account,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.

“Even though the source of the images is absolutely uncertain, I have confirmed with several sources that these shots are legitimate,” Gurman reports. “Earlier today, I detailed the new Preview and TextEdit apps shown above, and I previously discussed Healthbook.”

Gurman reports, “I’ll have more news on Healthbook in the coming weeks. Until then, you can check out a higher-resolution mockup of the Healthbook icon below. I’m not sure what the Tips icon is for, but it is probably a user-guide of some sort. Of course, it’s plausible that the icons are works in progress.”

        1. As a designer of over 20 years, I find iOS 7 icons clean, simple, and instantly accessible; not monotonous at all.

iOS certainly is capable of icons that look 3D. It’s also capable of actual 3D icons that spin around like dreidels when you touch them, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

        2. Well, Apple would have to create an API for developers to access for actual 3D icons. But you are correct.

2D 8 bit icons: Been there, done that for decades. Monotony amidst the riches of superior technology. 2D 8 bit icons does not equate to good taste. That’s another subject entirely.

  1. Soooo fake… the Preview and TextEdit icons are simply copied from Mac OS and do not even begin to attempt the iOS 7 aesthetic. And look at the confusion in the article and comments about Tips: some think it’s for calculating service tips (despite the icon being a light bulb) whereas others think it’s a manual of sorts (which Apple have never offered).

Are tech journalists getting dumber and dumber along with their readership?
