  1. “We’re excited to be expanding the galaxy” to include Mac users “without the need for any redevelopment.”

A quick check of Wikipedia shows the Window version was released on February 2, 2010. 4+ years to create a Cider-wrapped version?

Doesn’t seem like they were all that excited to bring it to Mac users.

    1. STO has been through a lot. A mac version was on their list, but not until the game proved itself on PCs. Instead, it stumbled quite a bit, went FTP, and I’m assuming now has a viable business model going that could benefit from additional mac customers. So I’m guessing it was just a matter of priorities.

I am glad to see more gaming coming to the Mac.

  2. Had been playing the Mac beta for some time. It’s fine for a wrapper version. Had a some visual issues and random crashes, but they seem to have cleared up. The only real gripe with the game is the initial loading times, but that could also be my older Mac Pro’s hard drive.

Gameplay: The starship combat is entertaining after gaining a few ranks. The ground combat is OK. It Game has a decent set of single player campaign missions which make you feel like you’re part of a Star Trek episode, both in past (TOS Trek) and later iterations of the franchise. If you’re a fan of the franchise and a Mac user, check it out.

Mac users are living in the best of times for Mac gaming ever. Between the selection on Steam, the Mac App Store, and various other outlets.
