“Former Apple CEO John Sculley is planning on launching a new smartphone brand in India,” Rajat Agrawal reports for BGR India. “The yet unnamed brand will be led by Ajay Sharma, who was heading Micromax’s smartphone division and was also at one time HTC’s India head.”
“The brand is being funded by Singapore-based Inflexionpoint, an investment and acquisition [firm], which also happens to have Sculley as one of its founding partners,” Agrawal reports. “The smartphones being developed will be priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 [approximately US$80-$245], but in a market currently flooded with smartphones from local brands and tier-one brands alike, it is unclear how these smartphones will be able to differentiate itself from the competition.”

MacDailyNews Take: With any luck, and for the sake of accuracy, the brand name will be कबाड़.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Tom R.” for the heads up.]
Yehhh. Sculley. He’s certainly who I’d pick to look after a tech product.
ROLMFA He’ll be on CNBS soon touting his company and how it is the new innovative Apple.
कबाड़ = Junk. Good one MDN!
Seriously, this guy is obviously seeing a cash cow over there, otherwise he wouldn’t be associating his name with it. I’m not saying it will be a successful smartphone, I’m just saying this will be a successful deal for him. Know what I mean?
Hahaha
It will squirt Pepsi!
John Sculley, what loser, hasn’t done a thing with his life (sic)
Well, that’s not exactly fair. He’s had a very interesting, diverse life and been involved with some interesting projects. But I think playing the role of investor is probably where he belongs.
I was being sarcastic. Everytime MDN post a story on him, they feel a need to trash him
No problem!
It appears you’ve gotten so many down votes because you look like you meant to imply your statement was sarcastic, but instead said it was a quote that was intentionally left “thus.”
Next time try /s, instead of [sic]. And here’s an article on how to use sic properly: http://data.grammarbook.com/blog/definitions/sic/
Every time you flip open the phone you’ll have a chance to win free prizes, soft drinks, or 10,000 rupees!
Tech support calls will be local!
If the new company makes the right innovations …
The smartphone wars are hardly over.
More capability for less rupies = mandatory.
Having a giant wad of cash is all it takes to make anyone an expert, so it seems.
This is good news because the junk phone to be offered in India by the junk Scully belongs there, Apple should stay out of India as its a cheap market not worth pursuing.
So, Sculley chose the sugared water option rather than changing the world.
The phone will have to be the size of a Buick to hold all the fail it will be full of.
Should have been called “Sugar Water” for Sculley.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha … this caused me to spit out my coffee.
John has been a successful investor in many different fields. He has mentored many young people who have gone on to be successful in their own right. None of you who feel the need to say something nasty have ever met John, worked with John, been in the board room at Apple or know anything other than what you read on the web. Do you really believe everything on the web is true? Wouldn’t it be better to say nothing if you can’t say something nice when none of you have any idea what you are talking about.
Sculley betrayed Steve Jobs and screwed up Apple Computer.
I don’t need to know anymore than that.
When Sculley left Apple the company was making money. Did you know there were two ceos after Sculley? Steve Jobs was fired by the board not John . The facts are out there if you look for them
Diane, the faithful are in the Jobs camp and have drunk the Kool-Aid. The only thing that could conceivably change their perception is a memoir by John. I, for one, would buy the first edition of that book.
I still prefer Coke, but I never judge people by my predilections.
