Third-party apps with Siri integration expected to play key role in Apple’s ‘iWatch’

“Apple is apparently working to open up Siri, its voice driven personal assistant, to third-party iOS applications, an improvement in services believed to be tied closely to the development of an anticipated ‘iWatch,'” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.

“Apple’s efforts are focused on allowing Siri to point users to third-party applications, according to a new report issued Monday by The Information,” Hughes reports. “While this would allow Siri to do more advanced functions like booking a hotel reservation, the report suggested it could also be closely tied to integration with a so-called ‘iWatch.'”

The technology being developed at Apple can also be applied to determine what app to show a user when they have limited screen space, as they would when using a smartwatch the company has been developing, according to people familiar with the effort. If a user starts running, for example, Siri might show them a fitness app that could help them track their workout while moving other apps into the background. The Information

  1. there will be a point at which siri’s capabilities will extend to constant monitoring. she will gain an intimate familiarity with my own unique brain waves, moods, my idiomatic bastardization of language, my aberrant and crippled sense of all things, my stupid, perverted humor, mdn posts, my lack of math skills, sex ..shutup! everything ..she will save this personal configuration to a safe place and become my most treasured confidant. i’m sure it will appear very weird to ‘outsiders’.

something incredible will happen ..i will click a consent to siri’s terms of agreement.. then, she and i will become one. ssshhhhh, don’t tell anybody. it’s the future. you’re not supposed to know that, yet.

siri deserves billions in apple investment and toil for the AI revolution of potential she will bring not to mention riches to those who hold long, which, i believe, i just mentioned.

    1. Let’s work on those math skills, for starters. You already possess the gifts of imagination, daring, poetry, desire. Acquire the insights of mathematics, the powers of thought it can provide, and you will be armoured against any attack, and hungry to prepare your own assault on life.

Agreed, but they’ll have to bitch slap Siri’s behind first. As long as Apple licences Nuance’s voice engine to power Siri it will hold Apple back.

Nuance are the gorilla in the room holding all the bananas and retarding speech to text with ridiculously slow development of their shonky software, particularly on the Mac. Remind you of anyone?

Just because Nuance have the best technology at the moment doesn’t mean it’s as good as it should be or could be.
