Apple iPhone 5s: Two months later and I couldn’t be happier

“I seem to get bored with iPhones, but keep buying them to test them out and compare to my other phones,” Matthew Miller writes for ZDNet. “However, after two months with the Apple iPhone 5s, I am more satisfied than I have ever been with an iPhone and my desire to purchase a new phone is cooled at the moment.”

“There are several reasons I enjoy the iPhone 5s with the defining factor being the quality and quantity of available applications and services,” Miller writes. “Like the iPhone 5, the 5s is a very well designed smartphone with metal and glass used in an elegant manner. The chamfered polished edges look great and the display has one of the widest viewing angles of any smartphone. I love that I can slide it into my front jeans pocket and carry it at any time without worrying about too much bulk.”

“I personally like iOS 7, maybe because I wasn’t a die hard iPhone user before the iPhone 5s and I wanted to see something a bit different from Apple with this version of the operating system. The multi-tasking interface reminds me of webOS and is the best I have used on a current smartphone OS.,” Miller writes. “As I mentioned earlier, the major reason I am enjoying the iPhone 5s is the selection of apps and services. Even though Android and Windows Phone have thousands of applications, I still find more apps and services I use on the iPhone. You can see a few of these apps in the following screenshots. While some of these are available on Android, some are iOS specific and the quality is more appealing to me on the iPhone.”

  1. While the fashion sense of women carries weight, the portability of a slim iPhone 5s, its compactness and low profile, remains a huge satisfier for men. I am bewildered and astonished at the young hipsters with their phablets – where do they stash them when not in hand? Euro man-purse? Fanny pack? Cargo pants? What am I missing?

  2. I touch ID is (one of) the best feature for me. BUT….there is a trick to it that everyone should know.

When I first programmed it for my thumb, my thumb was nice and clean and the phone sensor (home button) was also nice and clean. As we all know, these pristine conditions can change throughout the day…..not majorly, but your thumb might be a little less dry or it might have a little bit more dirt etc. What I did was I programmed the same thumb (in this more “normal” sweaty/dirty condition) into a second finger memory of the iPhone. Since then it has never failed to recognize my thumb.

If you are like me and hate the iPhone in your pocket, then the Quick Draw solves this problem. Very cool. Real leather. Very high quality construction! Replaces a wallet most of the time. I love mine.
Just a happy customer passing on a tip.

      1. Sorry folks for the repetitions – the post did not show after few minutes so I repeated.

Now for the Apple conference call.
Earnings a little off from what I had hoped but pretty good.

  4. Just wondering…
How many identical articles are there over on the Android sites, espousing the same enlightenment for a device of the ‘robot’ persuasion?
Honestly, these ‘come to Jesus’ articles are getting very boring.

  5. I could be happier. I can’t get the random crashing to stop.

I love the hardware of the 5S, but i’m firmly in the camp that thinks iOS7 isn’t up to Apple’s quality standards.

  6. Just moved from 4s to 5s.

4s case design cleaner, heft chunkier, but I like the 5s fingerprint sensor.

IOS7 is *OK* but I find the general look rather insipid, and text legibility poor here and there.

Camera functions represent a good improvement, unlike battery performance.

Overall? 5s mostly better, but IOS7 needs ergonomic improvement.
