“Apple is winning, and it really wants its competition to know it,” Ricardo Bilton writes for VentureBeat.
“One of the most notable things about the company’s presentation in San Francisco today is just how eager Apple was to stick it to its rivals — particularly Microsoft — at every turn,” Bilton writes. “Not only did Apple question the validity of hybrid devices like the Surface, but the company also took a dig at two of Microsoft’s biggest revenue streams — operating system upgrades and productivity software. Apple may be already burying Microsoft in the hardware department, but it’s also going out of its way to stretch that domination to software as well.”
“One of the more obvious anticompetitor comments came from Apple CEO Tim Cook himself, who laid a major burn on devices like Microsoft’s ‘sorta-tablet, softa-PC’ Surface,” Bilton writes. “While the Surface is core to Microsoft’s future as a devices and service’s company, in Cook’s eyes it’s the kind of device that shows that other companies aren’t quite ready to completely embrace the post-PC world, where people are typing on virtual screens rather than physical keyboards.”
Our competition is different: They’re confused. They chased after netbooks. Now they’re trying to make PCs into tablets and tablets into PCs. Who knows what they’ll do next? I can’t answer that question, but I can tell you that we’re focused. – Apple CEO Tim Cook, October 22, 2013

MacDailyNews Take: Kick ’em in the teeth, Tim! Then do it again and again until no teeth remain.
Tim Cook is charged with completing Steve Jobs’ master plan:
[Apple is] chasing after an outlandish Stevian dream: to take back the computer business from Microsoft… Like all the best fights, this one is personal. Steve Jobs is going to best Bill Gates. This fight is Shakespearean, elemental, and emotional; watching it unfold should be the most fascinating business story of this young millennium. – Jeffrey S. Young and William L. Simon, iCon Steve Jobs: The Greatest Second Act in the History of Business, 2005
Too bad Obama abused iPhone by comparing his oh so perfect Obamacare website to the new iOS 7. He then said stuff about glitches or something like that. Wrong OS, Obama. I think you meant Android. Unbelievable. The only complaints were about how “stupid” iOS 7 looked, and nothing more. I have that, and it works like a charm.
Shut the politic valve off. Not required, not necessary and not appreciated irrespective of your irrelevant opinion
Well Obama did appoint Eric Holder as his Attorney General, and Holder did sue Apple when Apple was only trying to break Amazon monopoly. So Obama is citing apple as an example of success even as he picks on apple. So, yeah, its great that Apple is succeeding — despite lack of support from our leadership. Go Apple!
More than appointed (and I have written this repeatedly) The Attorney General sits at the pleasure of the president.
In short that means he works for, and reports to the President . (as apposed to Judges who are autonomous after appointment)
Eric Holder is doing precisely what the President wants him to, otherwise he would replace him, simple as that.
well! he certainly got your tight whities in a ‘not.’
fortunately, you are not moderating/censoring this site.
Politics. Ugh!
iOS7 does have glitches. It has hung on me a few times, especially when updating iOS7 now the third time to iOS7.03. Some apps don’t load or freeze on loading. Don’t forget about sensorgate, and the early flaws with security.
FYI, the company hired to create the website of the Affordable healthcare program did not anticipate high demand and anticipated only about 60,000 users registering at the same time where as many 250,000 where registering all at once.
Get a grip and layoff the Kool-Aid. That turd can in no way be compared to Apple’s iOs7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1. Nor for that matter, anything else that gives the appearance of working.
Why would they expect only 60,000? Who gave them such ridiculous figures? The estimates of uninsured citizens was in the millions and the time frame was/is relatively short to shoehorn all those folks through the system. Incompetence seems to be be the rule; I shudder at the thought of what the “cure” will bring.
I was hoping Apple will deliver a shit Stain the size of Nebraska to Microsofts management and Tim Cook and the gang didn’t disappoint, they rubbed the damage nicely and casually 😀 Poor Monkey Boy Ballmer 😀
And now for some additional MicroTURD comments. I wish I could be so ignorant and be paid millions to be so delusional & ignorant….. Here we Go!….
Microsoft exec blasts Apple iPad and free apps
A Microsoft exec blasted rival Apple Inc. on Wednesday, calling the company’s apps “struggling” and “lightweight.”
Frank Shaw, Microsoft’s MSFT corporate vice president for communications, also argued that Microsoft’s tablets were better than Apple’s new iPads. Reacting to news that Apple was dropping its fees for its iWork suite of apps, Shaw said in a blog post, “Now, since iWork has never gotten much traction, and was already priced like an afterthought, it’s hardly that surprising or significant a move.”
Yyyyyyeeeaaaah ….. Hello Frank, uuummm did you get the memo? You best start getting your résumé polished up. Zunetang is looking for incompetent help to rid the world of Zune streaks left on the bowl.
If only Safari wouldn’t keep crashing on my iPhone I’d be able to read the article. iOS 7 is a buggy mess & ugly to boot. Get your own house in order first before criticising others.
Just download the MDN app you frick’n moron.
The only sack of shit are your intestines. They have become so full it’s backing up into your brain.
Brain? You’re being too generous.
Well crash test dummies do take one hell of a battering so concussion is the least of the problems. Meanwhile iOS7 works like a dream on my iPad despite its visual look which gives me mixed emotions.
“Crash test dummy”?
Were you on the Windows Me design team? We can tell your bitter…it’s okay.
The MDN app looks silly on a 4″ display.
Do you think anyone (including the other trolls) believe you own (or have ever even considered buying) anything that runs any version of iOS?
So, given that, the point of you little fictitious rant is?
The only message I’m receiving is that you truly are a dummy. Capiche?
Look, at least he did not say iOS was as glitchy as Obama’s entire administration.
Now c’mon Wayne, we all know that nothing is as glitchy as Obama’s administration. And by glitchy, you do mean f****d up, right?
I think the troll is going for the Guiness world record for alias’s.
I’ve heard it said, ‘if sex is a pain in the ass, you’re doing it the wrong way.’
iOS 7 is working just fine on my iPhone 4S.
Sorry, Apple is crushing Microsoft’s future due to Microsoft’s epic incompetence. Be nice to the handicapped please.
However, to the thieving 32-bit Samsung gang, I am Ok with, “Kick ‘em in the teeth, Tim!”
Microsoft pushes Surface and Windows 8 at the expense of existing Windows users who do not want their next “PC” to have a touchscreen (especially in enterprise). Microsoft’s core customers just want an OS that is optimized for keyboard and mouse/trackpad, and they are tired of Microsoft’s arrogance. That’s why such a large percentage of Windows users are still using ancient Windows XP, and a large percentage of new PCs are sold with Windows 7 (already four years old).
Meanwhile, Apple’s DOES make a computer and OS that is optimized for use with a keyboard and mouse/trackpad. Long-time Windows users will continue to have that “a-ha” moment, when they discover, to their amazement, that they feel more “at home” using a Mac than the latest kludge version of Windows.
Now, Microsoft is even transitioning Office to be “touch first.” Microsoft seems determined to gain a few “leftover” tablet users while steadily bleeding away their its core customers.
Monkey boy has been embarrassed in front of the whole world. Mikey had to choke on his own words and buy his failing company back only to watch it die a slow and painful death and Mikey lose his money.
It’s now time to move onto exposing Gates as the crook he is and let him choke to death on one of his most famous lines, ““What I can’t figure out is why he (Steve Jobs) is even trying (to be the CEO of Apple)? He knows he can’t win.”
Bill, you can’t buy your way to heaven and history will not be kind when they talk about the dark age of computing. Good bye!
@Jersey_Trader
Don’t worry about Microsoft. They are simply going to put their fingers in their ears and shout la-la-la-la. They are going to carry on as if nothing happened.
Take a look over at the delusional bastards at WindowsITPro
Paul Thurrott thinks giving Mavericks away free isn’t a big deal since Microsoft gives Windows 8.1 away.

Rod Trent thinks Microsoft blogger Frank Shaw deserves hero status for talking up the Surface 2.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft_blog/archive/2013/10/23/apples-and-oranges.aspx
I’ve never understood the surface keyboards, they are no better than a touch screen keyboard. A keyboard has mechanical keys not soft touchpads
Yes, iPad, I still think you’re pretty. And as of yesterday, you’re even prettier.
Wow – what’s with all the positive apple vibes in the business media in the last 24 hours!? Love it… love it!
Yes, kick them in the teeth when their down and keep on kicking them for all the pain and frustration they have caused users of computers over the past 3 decades. Treat them like one of the walking dead and stomp their head in.
Wow, I feel much better now getting that out. Sorry about the rant, but I have seen way to many people be frustrated and waste time on a windows machine.
Interesting how Bill Gates won the first war by virtually giving Office away with every new PC – prepared to make on the deal when you inevitably bought the upgrade.. Now Apple are offering value by giving away the suite and letting you know that they will give away the next upgrade or two. This only makes money when you replace the hardware in 3-5 yrs. that’ sa long term investment to grow marketshare
Oh! Boo Hoo! And Microsoft hasn’t bashed Apple in its commercials recently? Microsolt deserves ALL of the bashing that Apple wants to dish out. It is about time Apple gave Microsoft some of its own medicine. Now if only the Republicans will give Obama back some of his nasty dishonest Republican bashing. Only a good Republican response will be 100% truthful.
Obama doesn’t need to bash Republicans, they have been doing a good job of that all by themselves Ha..Ha..
Like all the best fights, this one is personal.
That’s great for drama and entertainment.
But let’s get down to reality: Wiping out Microsoft means ENDING the dragging on Dark Age of Computing. No more Microsoft and AT LAST we can move on to user-friendliness and dumping legacy crap code as a MANDATE!
I’ve been ready for moving on past Microsoft for years. It starts with living MICROSOFT-FREE.
I feel really really bad for MS and their abuse issue(s). Really… Bad…
NOT!
It’s a wonderful dream but I still can’t figure out how to convince the IT/CIO who wants everything done in Sharepoint. You can’t massively deploy iPads, iMacs any Mac thing without the MS established overlords saying “no sharepoint comparability, then no Mac stuff allowed”
When MSFT files for bankruptcy, the IT guys won’t have a choice.
I recall an interview with MonkeyBoy Ballmer a few years back, where he was asked about “Macs in the Enterprise”. One big argument against Macs was “There’s no Sharepoint” (and other Server based services). I was disgusted by his arrogance — speaking against a hardware platform by refusing to make the software for it, while at the same time the hardware would happily run the software they make (if you install Windows).
Apple needs Microsoft and Google to keep it on its toes. Innovation dies when one company establishes a stranglehold – ie. Internet Explorer, Office, Google Search, etc.
MDN needs to grow up and realise that for Apple to be successful, they need to remain passionate about delivering innovative quality products – they don’t need to grind every competitor into the dust.
“iPad 2”?
Comments like that from an Microshit exec is proof that Tim Cook and his gang hit the nail in Microshits a$$
And in the government’s!
Who would have believed Apple would give away its crown jewels after being bent over and attempted rape many times from the government? This is a real “stick it in your eye!” moment for Apple towards the US government.
