Analyst: Apple’s iPhone 5c inventory is selling, inventory in ample supply

“In a note to clients on Monday, Will Power of Robert W. Baird wrote that iPhone 5C inventory is ‘moving,’ though the device is still easy to find,” Dan Gallagher reports for MarketWatch.

“Checks with retailers, he noted, found that ‘different stores have been running out of stock of a variety of SKUs, rather than just one or two stores always running out of stock of the same SKU.’ He added that at least some version of the device is in stock with nearly every story store his firm checked,” Gallagher reports. “‘This implies that while the iPhone 5C is easily found, its inventory is not sitting stagnant,’ he wrote.”

Gallagher reports, “The iPhone 5S remains hard to find. Power of Baird wrote that the device remains ‘supply constrained.’ Apple’s online store notes a shipping time of ‘2-3 weeks’ for all models of the iPhone 5S, which is essentially unchanged from previous notations promising to ship the device sometime in the month of October.”

    1. My daughter was visiting over the weekend and she had a pink iPhone 5C and I was amazed how solid that sucker was. Really a very nice quality model. Apple though has proven people aren’t all looking for the cheapest so much as the best especially with the whopping success of the 5S. Personally I love my iPhone 5 still and look forward to my upgraded iP6 where the quandary will probably be – bigger RD screen or smaller? A nice problem to have.

  1. I saw the first 5c out in the wild last week.

I was walking downstairs from the 3rd floor in my office building when I noticed it reeked of marijuana smoke. as i exited i saw three punk kids sitting at the steps smoking a blunt and they were even rolling up another one!!

the 3rd kid whipped out his blue 5c and i complimented it saying that it looked pretty cool

    1. Well, then it’s no longer wild, it’s domesticated.

The look of the 5c is rather unique. The 5S (unless it is a gold) is harder to spot “in the wild” as it looks much like the 5.

  2. I’m sure the 5c is easier to assemble than the 5s due to the Touch ID sensor (which could be hampering supplies). Or it could be that Apple planned for more 5c production because it comes in more colors than the 5s. Who knows?

Regardless, Apple is selling plenty of devices and will continue to do so. Anyone who believed otherwise is a moron.

    1. My thoughts, however flighty, are that the 5c is cheaper to manufacture because of the plastic, and I’m certain that’s why they came up with the process, to save money and boost margins for what was essentially the iPhone 5 dropped into 2nd place in their lineup. Also the move to plastic removed a barrier to multiple band radios, now lining the device’s perimeter instead of confined to a strip at the end and making the colourful plaything also a world phone. Other vendors offer multiple models for diverse regional carriers, Apple has far fewer for the 5c.

  3. My son purchased a 5c last week, and had trouble finding just the color he wanted in stock in Atlanta, GA. I purchased one yesterday, and could only find the 5c in blue or white in my town. Some outlets only had it in white. The Radio Shack and Target store I checked only had two total devices in stock. It’s anecdotal, but sounds like they are moving quite nicely.

  4. I was in an Apple Store last weekend & they were selling a bunch of 5C’s – I preordered 2 of them – we love them both – get a bunch of compliments on them – nice quality look & feel!

  5. “…..shipping time of ’2-3 weeks’ for all models of the iPhone 5S, which is essentially unchanged from previous notations promising to ship the device sometime in the month of October.”

How is that unchanged from simply stating October? Now they’re just saying, without actually saying, you’ll get it in November.

How is this unchanged when it now means it ships in November?

  7. As long as Apple sticks with the crapalicious iOS 7, I will be most unwilling to buy any more iOS devices from them. I prefer to wait and see next year to see what changes have been made to iOS 7. If they continue down the path of making it more unusable, my wallet will remain firmly shut. That goes for iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. It’s ridiculous why I should put up with a sub-optimal mobile OS.

The same thing could be said of BB devices. The 5C is an excellent phone but it is priced too high when compared to the 5S. I’m sure the very limited availability of the 5S is causing sells of 5C as some people aren’t able to wait for the 5S.
