Most of the ousters are evil terrorists themselves. At least Assad is tolerant to all the various religious groups in Syria. My wife’s cousin is stranded in an area where, if he tries to leave his neighborhood a REBEL sniper will shoot anyone crossing the line they have drawn. We spoke with him on Skype a few weeks ago. They hadn’t been able to get food for days and the rebels were preventing the government from getting aid to them.

So a given munition fired from a given mortar tube will—after you consult the table—land within a certain uncertainty circle from the published impact point. Barometric pressure is a big factor in producing systematic errors—either short or long.
So what you do is have a forward observer watching where your first shots are landing. Then all you need precise compensating adjustments from where your previous shots were angled. Ergo, a level with one-tenth-degree precision. An iPad or iPhone running something like Clinometer works fine.
