“With the iPhone 4S launch nearly two years ago, Apple introduced the Siri voice control system to its customers,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.
“Apple certainly did not deny the early issues with Siri: the company launched the product in ‘beta,’ a tag that has remained on the software ever since,” Gurman reports. “With iOS 7, Siri has been given a redesigned user-interface, new functionality, and all-new voices. Many of the server errors and lengthy processing time issues that riddled the product in its early days have now disappeared.”
Gurman reports, “With the upcoming launch of iOS 7, it appears that Apple will finally be taking Siri out of ‘beta.'”

[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Edward W.” for the heads up.]
I’ve been using iOS 7 for a few weeks now, and Siri is a marked improvement over the previous generation. Let’s just hope Apple hasn’t already scared people away from it.
It still sits and thinks for me once in awhile. Its hasn’t disappeared. But overall works great for me!
BLN, I can’t take anything you say seriously. You are a complete ass. Siri is already more human-like than you will ever be.
“For me human-like implies HAL-9000. Ok?”
Good luck with that anytime soon. Unless you have the schematics for a 3D holographic lattice in a diamond matrix hyper-computer AI that will exactly replicate human responses?
Didn’t think so.
Why do you guys reply BLN? He is a psychotic and 95% people here know about it. Let him drum his beat as much as he want and allow him to burn himself out. Poor soul
I don’t know the problem BLN’s post is giving people. His take on this seems clear to me. And those who don’t have a vision of what the future of AI should be should just be quiet and let the visionaries claim the day. Frankly, I agree that we are still too far from the possibilities in computing. And though I’d like a more benign choice in computing that HAL, I certainly recognize we are quite far from reaching the real potential of computing (AI).
I’d rather Siri were more like JARVIS.
I don’t think I’d trust it if it were anything like HAL-9000. 😉
What the hell is JARVIS or is this some sort of in joke that you are rapturously heaving your chests to.
I would certainly listen to Siri than BLN bullshit anytime.
I’ve been using it near daily for a year and have no complaints. Just for directions, reminders and the occasional hands-free text while driving (at a stop light of course).
In it’s present version, its by no means perfect…..but no less accurate than most of the people who I might ask for information…there ya go!
All she ever says on beta is “I’m really sorry about this but I can’t take any requests right now”, or “something went wrong, can you try again”. It’s so frustrating. A third of the time it works though. Yes I know “it’s beta, you have to expect that” but we are on GM now! Hope that shit is fixed in the final on Wednesday.
Perhaps they’ll declare it a golden master beta.
I would have agreed with you a few months ago but I am really impressed at how well it works now. I can’t wait for iOS7.

Please go away
The Star Trek “Data” version of Siri wont be ready till iOS 8 or 9. 😉
Well, Siri needed to speak Mongolian in iOS 7 first to be ready for the China market. iOS 9 may bring in Klingon for those in the intergalactic smart phone market.
If your speech is slurred, take the bottle out of your mouth before dictating to Siri.
I could appreciate your speech being slurred (from drinking) after suffering so many debilitating assaults by presumptuous commenters, who could very well have overlooked aphasia, bipolar or other disorder (not labelling you, BLN, but establishing a category).
In clinical studies I have seen a number of mild cases which were socially exacerbated. The Internet with its seductive anonymity facilitates unwarranted personal attacks. We all have learnt its power to influence unthinkable actions, not limited to suicide. The New York Times had a piece critical of trolling two weeks ago (I’m surprised those bozos finally noticed.)
My takeaway from your post is that you give credit when it is due, and only then; but until then, you keep the pressure on, because that is the nature of any naturally outspoken, unhypnotised person.
hannahjs, BLN has been spouting stuff on this forum for a long time. Enough of the remote clinical psychological analysis. BLN attacks as much as anyone, and is more deserving of attacks than most.
Who hasn’t spouted?—I say, let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
Remote psychological analysis. The need to constantly try to impress others with flowery rhetoric and impressive prose. Sounds like a classic textbook narcissistic personality. Harmless. Annoying but harmless.
Hello, Captain Irony.
Don’t remember another product/feature advertised this much while in beta.
Not by Apple. As for others, how about G-mail? Still in Beta, isn’t it?
Google Glass? Google Anything?
I’ve been using iOS 7 for about two months and still find Siri to only deliver about 50% of the time. When it works it’s definitely cool, but 50% reliability is pretty bad. I can’t imagine it’s going to suddenly get better when iOS 7 general release floods the market.
BLN, so you’re getting over Siri despite some extraordinary remarks that you’ve made about it in the past.
Maybe you’ll get over iOS 7 too and then sign off from MDN.
That was one seriously long beta stage.
Siri understands my 3 year old’s speech better than I do.
My goddaughter has developed a relationship with poor, stuttering Siri that is heartbreaking. I only hope she (Genevieve) understands, once the iOS 7 version of Siri greets her, that Siri has grown up, partly to to Genevieve’s own earnest and caring interactions.
Thats because it is 3 years old too.
