“One of the flagship features of Apple’s new iPhone 5s is that it has at its heart the 64-bit A7 chip,” Adrian Kingsley-Hughes writes for ZDNet.
“Apple has scored a win here over Android handset makers. The 64-bit chips for Android devices aren’t ready, and neither is Android itself. It is likely that Android 5.0 will be the first version to fully utilize the new ARMv8 architecture,” Kingsley-Hughes writes. “For now, this gives Apple a clear lead over the competition, and the gap is unlikely to the closed until 2014 at the earliest.”
Kingsley-Hughes writes, “Apple openly acknowledges that moving iOS up to 64-bit brings iOS and OS X apps much closer. Take this line from Apple’s 64-bit iOS 7 documentation: ‘The architecture for 64-bit apps on iOS is almost identical to the architecture for OS X apps, making it easy to create a common code base that runs in both operating systems.’ This could be huge.”

The basic fundamental of “To 64 bit or not to 64 bit” is the fact that if a computer is not a Mac or an Apple inc. product, then you have only one option. Windows whatever version! Is there any room for Android on Windows whatever the version? I strongly doubt it.
So Android goes 64 bit sometime in the future, does it mean that there will be a convergence of Android on a mobile and Android on a PC? If so, will they be compatible with each other let alone with other brands of android handsets made by other brands of OEM’s?
Meanwhile, M$ who have licensed some of Apple incs IP will have the capacity to converge their mobile OS with their desktop OS but will be lagging way far behind Apple inc. to be a threat to Apple.

Most Android phones, while cheaply built and plastic are very capable devices. What makes you say that an person who buys and Android phone expects to use them like a feature phone? Honestly, I’ve see far more Android users use their phones like smartphones. Most iPhone users I’ve seen barely know how to use their iPhones. They never use them for PIM functions, very rarely browse the internet, use useful apps, or even use functions such as navigation. Every time I’m with friends who use iPhones, I notice most can barely use a program like Yelp to find a good restaurant or give me driving directions to a location while I’m driving. The vast majority of iPhone users buy them because they’re a fad and a fashion statement.

With the android fragmentation, Apple is playing Chess, while the other Android device makers are playing Go Fish, with the developers, saying “Got Any IceCreamSandwiches? No? RAM is not a big factor if 64 bit chips don’t need to access RAM anywhere near as often as 32 bit chips have to do in order to function properly.
64 bit chips aren’t necessarily twice as fast but they certainly can have twice the resolution and twice the objects in a high end game scene.

Progress is inevitable and Apple is setting the stage with the 64 bit iOS which is very similar to OS X and easy to port over.

A powerful processor will speed up content searching, applications and gaming but without increasing screen size, it defeat the purpose of having the 64 but processor. While I realize that 64 bits has to happen at some point, am I the only one that sees this switch to 64 bits as a form of fragmentation? Now developers have to be aware of 32 vs 64 bit issues in their code.
It had to happen some time and now it will be an issue fading in the rear view mirror. Besides, unlike some other systems iOS can run both 32 and 64 bit apps.
This is downright hilarious! frandroid users are going to be lagging behind for so long now and us smart iPhone owners can proudly continue with the best of the best hardware software and company. I can’t believe frandoid users actually trying to defend their device, it’s like they’ve never used an iPhone! I’ve never had my iPhone crash, freeze, or lag, but almost every time one of my acquaintances (I can’t call such idiots my friends) who uses a frandroid device trys to use it I watch them have to wait for it to start whatever app they want to run and not to mention they can’t even smoothly transition between screens! I have an acquaintance who calls himself some sort of computer wizard, he says his $am$ung galaxy s4 is the best phone to get but apparently has some extra “bloatware” touchsizzle thing on it! My iPhone never had such stuff lol. So then he goes on to say how he removed it and had to reinstall the entire system just to get it off, then he had to install somy cyan-gen-mod to get his battery to last any respectable time (I still have never seen any frandroid device make it through the day, my iPhone happily goes for hours though) and also that cyan thing is supposed to make it lag less, and it helps but still doesn’t have the pure fluid experience that iOS has. I really feel sorry for frandriod users in their poor delusions about their phone.
