“A spokesman for Amazon.com Inc. said Sunday the online retail giant won’t launch a smartphone this year, and that if it did launch one in the future, it ‘would not be free,'” Amir Efrati reports LessicaLessin.
“The statement is the first time that Amazon has said it will not offer a phone this year,” Efrati reports, “addressing long-running reports it has been working on one.”

Don’t you think Apple should respond with denials to idiot rumors also? I know there are too many to respond to all, but at least to the worst negative ones? Jobs used to respond when negative stories had traction.
It’s usually best not to respond to rumours. Otherwise people will keep coming to the company with variations of rumours as a fishing expedition to see what is denied and what isn’t.
Not commenting as a matter of routine is a much wiser strategy for Apple.
Naw, this is just the fallout from negotiations with DoJ not going the way Amazon wants regarding additional investigations into Apple.

and its fine to deny one is coming this year – no worries to Apple — a free smart phone – got to have a catch – or else the smart phone is plain garbage to use – no sweat – aint holding my breath
So this means Amazon will have a phone for sale or for free in 2014? Why limit your response to ‘this year’?
