“Apple’s latest acquisition is the recently shut down second-screen TV/video app Matcha.tv, according to a source with knowledge of the deal that asked to remain anonymous,” Tom Cheredar reports for VentureBeat.
“Matcha.tv was an iOS app that provided a comprehensive overview of everything that’s available to watch via cable TV providers (Comcast), streaming video services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime), and digital video stores (iTunes, Amazon),” Cheredar reports. “Additionally, you could manage what you watched from a universal queue, get video recommendations, and connect with social networks to see what your friends were watching/liking.”
Cheredar reports, “Apple is said to have purchased Matcha.tv for an estimated $1 to $1.5 million, according to VentureBeat’s source. Yet, the final amount could have been much higher, considering that Matcha.tv was seeing regular growth and was routinely ranked among the top 15 entertainment apps listed in Apple’s App Store. Another source tells VentureBeat that the purchase price is definitely incorrect, but couldn’t comment further.”

MacDailyNews Note:
Apple will acquire your company if your iOS apps is so good and, at the same time, match Apple’s business needs.
On the other hand, with Google Play, if your apps are so good then Google and Samsung probably will “adopt” your code (with some comments modification) and call it their own. ** cough ** Java **cough**
Apple could turn this app into something worthwhile.
Apple could turn this app into something worthwhile for Americans.
There, I fixed it for you.
This could really turn the AppleTV into a gateway to anything you’d want to watch.
It is something worthwhile, that’s why Apple purchased them.
It will turn into another “Gecko Toe” of the the Apple Ecosystem. 😉
Add over the air broadcast schedules too, please.
Not all of us have or want the legalized extortion that is cable tv. In fact, more & more people are cutting the cord – Apple would do well not to ignore them. They’d do even better if they encouraged them.
I really hoped they didn’t wast a billion like Facebook did on Instagram… What a bunch of idiots… 1 billion dollar…. That’s totally retarded.
