Samsung slavishly copies Apple’s iPad mini with Galaxy Tab 3 (with photo)

“Surprise, surprise, a certain Korean company copies more of Apple’s product design,” Obama Pacman reports.

“When Apple launched the iPad mini in October 2012, Apple explained the design: the almost 8″ screen size and thin border allow one-handed use,” Obama Pacman reports. “Now, the new 8″ Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 has the same border design as the iPad mini.”

Obama Pacman reports, “Some might argue that the thin borders is an obvious design choice for 8″ tablets. However, before iPad mini, smaller Samsung tablets copied the 10″ iPad’s design (introduced April 2010) which has even-width borders on all sides.”

  1. “Welcome to FedEx Office. Can I help you?”

“Yes, I’d like a samsung of this report please.”

    “A what?”

“You know, like a xerox, but cheaper and lower quality.”

  2. Doesn’t matter what they do, the underlying OS is a piece of shit. Just like Windows OEM’s can’t help but make crap, it’s the same with Android vendors – the OS itself is a righteous piece of shit.

The only good thing about Android is the flexible file system which iOS should copy. Instead of lumping data with apps, there should be some means to disaggregate data from the apps themselves, unless the data is irrevocably bound to the app.

    1. When was the last time Android copied an iOS feature? What makes Android crappy? Why all the hostility towards Android?

You say Android is crappy yet in the same comment you describe a critical advantage Android has over iOS. I don’t think any fair minded individual who has used Android would say that it is crappy, it has its flaws but so does iOS. I don’t think any of the 2 O.Ses is better than the other rather the 2 O.Ses Suit different people in different ways. If you do not realize this then you are a fanboy.

      1. Fanboism is truly a serious affliction, it dulls the mind. Where have I glorified Android over iOS? Where have I talked smack over Apple? I have a deep respect for both Apple & Google the 2 have pushed mobile computing to a whole new level.

      2. “When was the last time Android copied an iOS feature?”

For those just now arriving on planet earth…Android IS, has always been and likely will continue to be a blatant end-to-end copy of iOS. The irony, the irony.

  3. I love how the images in the original article implied total crappiness even by the use of typeface. Next to the iPad, the text is in Helvetica (well-known and elegant), while by Samsung, we have crappy, cheesy Comic Sans that Microsoft had some intern slap together for Windows 95 (or so it seems). It is by far the most misused font in the history of modern typography.

  4. Whilst I accept that there is only so much you can do with a rectangular device that is basically all screen, and that there are going to be some things that would be pushing it to be able to patent for your sole use, but it is funny that the things Samsung supposedly comes up with happen shortly after Apple do them. If it was the odd similarity here and there scattered throughout products at varying times then you could maybe understand it, but it’s almost predictable at this point.

  5. I hate to say it,, but that new Samsung tab looks about as perfect in size as available today.
For what I do at work, and after, the Samsung tab looks almost perfect to me. I think Apple really has to make one a tad smaller than the mini.
I’m buying the Tab 3 only because it fits my needs better, not for anything else.

      1. Good luck with that here…

I also started to make “decent comments” and saw how crazy most people here are. It’s not so much that they love Apple products (I’m OK with that)… They HATE everything else especially if it’s successful.

Now I just come back to laugh about the craziness you find here and sometimes make a comment when the FUD they spread becomes too pathetic.

  6. Cool it guys, cool it. Others will always copy the best, Apple. That’s going to stay that way, and the best will always choose the best, the others not.
    So, don’t worry, be happy.

  7. It’s so silly it becomes funny.

The Galaxy Tab 3 is almost identical (once resized) to an S4 which itself is a simple evolution form the S3.

The release date for the S3 was May 2012. 😉

This article is just a way, for some “sad” fans to keep faith in the “Apple is the leader; everybody copies” myth.

    Sweet dreams

    1. The normal people (What you call Google Fanboys) come from a strange place.

It’s a place where we are interested in technologies, not brands.

But hey… I understand your pain… Truth hurts.
I must admit that I admire your dedication to your iGod.

P.S: Last answer for today… Have better to do

  8. I’m sorry – And this is surprising, how?

As soon as there’s a picture of the new iPad mini coming later this year Samsung’s gonna copy it and distribute it. That’s the way we do business now, and courts in several countries, including the USA, seem to help them right along. Business as usual.

  9. WOW! MDN. I am shock. how dare can you say that? thin border line? are you kidding me? do you think it is copy or something? you’re totally wrong. if you say so, apple copied lots of things from others. what a loser you are, MDN.
