“In somewhat of a surprise from Tuesday’s quarterly conference call, it was announced that iTunes Software and Services generated $3.9 billion, which represents a whopping 25 percent increase compared to the year-ago period,” AppleInsider reports.
Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer “said some 1 billion TV episodes have been downloaded from the digital storefront since its inception, while more than 800,000 shows, and 350,000 movies, are downloaded each day,” AppleInsider reports. “Apple noted on Tuesday that the number of iOS titles up for offer has slowly grown to 900,000, 375,000 of which are designed especially for iPad.”
AppleInsider reports, “Developers have made $11 billion from App Store sales, half of which came from the last four months.”

Who?
Perhaps you mean Marco Rubio. What makes you think he’s a big fan of Apple?

“Developers have made $11 billion from App Store sales, half of which came from the last four months.”
That is far and away the most mind-blowing statistic from the call. Half in the last 4 months!!!!! The iOS platform is on fire!
The Market wants sustainable growth. This is a prime example of it, right here, and it’s independent of hardware and its spec ops battlefields.
This also tells me that this push of developing for iOS (to the detriment of Android) must have started about 2 years ago.
But, but, but . . . Samsung is going to have a great big developers conference like Apple and Android developers will makes tens of thousands of dollars after. Some of them may even be able to make a living by programming for the Android platform.
…which is good because the rest of us won’t have to support them as welfare cases as we have had to do up ’til now
Only reason to show up is for a free tablet or phone. Wonder if they are going to have some more of that “great” entertainment for the S4 roll out?
I love iTunes. The only thing that drives me nuts is Sound Check. I wish Apple and the Labels would work on standardizing volume level across the board.
I’ve got a sound check for you…it’s called earplugs.
Sure, like the great stuff from John D. Loudermilk circa 1969 that I recently located over there. And you’re right about current pop music—unlistenable. Am I really getting that old, or is it actually dreck? Whatever. ITunes rules, it has enriched our lives in many ways.
If the lyrics are intelligible and the melody is catchy, it is generally good music in my opinion, but each to their own. That even sort of counts for country and western in some cases.
Yep.
If you can’t hum it, it ain’t music.
“To each his own” — that’s actually a song, I think! Clever of you, and points for respecting country/western music. 🙂
Most ‘songs’ seem to have lyrics made out of several trite sayings (trite |trīt| adjective – of a remark, opinion, or idea) overused and consequently of little import; lacking originality or freshness:)
I think it was Jed Clampett who said that he liked BOTH kinds of music: country AND western.
I thought Granny said it.
But, here us the line in this video clip from the movie the Blues Brothers:
What country / west of what?
… one of the most nonsensical labels for music ever.
How is this a surprise? Apple stated a couple of months ago that 50% of the total Apple TV sales had happened in the last year so of course sales of shows and movies would have massively increased.
Obviously lack of research and common sense is the definition of journalism right now.
Apparently, focusing on creating the best products possible can be a good business strategy.
App store alone generated almost 4X the revenue of Netflix for the quarter. Maybe Apple should spin it out as a tracking stock. Using NFLX metrics, the iTunes store would have a market cap of $50 billion or about one eighth of Apple’s total market cap.
