Apple iPad’s dominant usage share increases to 84.3%

Since Chitika Insights’ last study on the tablet market, Apple iPad users’ share of U.S. and Canadian tablet Web traffic has increased by nearly two percentage points, from 82.4% in May 2013, to 84.3% in June 2013 – now the iPad’s highest share since the beginning of 2013. This marks the second consecutive month of iPad usage share gains. Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Samsung’s Galaxy Tablet families remain in distant second and third place, respectively.

To determine the distribution of Web usage among tablet devices for the month of June 2013, Chitika Insights sampled tens of millions of U.S. and Canadian tablet online ad impressions running through the Chitika Ad Network. The data used within the most recent analysis was drawn across the time frame of June 15 to June 21, 2013, and data for previous months was collected from Chitika Insights’ April and May tablet market share reports, respectively.

  1. All thanks to the iPad mini. It’s already proven to be one of the best, most strategic decisions in company history. Right up there with the iPod mini and nano. If it wasn’t for the mini, iPad market share would be in steep decline as cheaper, more compact alternatives took a bite out of Apple’s ass.

How come none of these analysts give Tim props for jumping out ahead of the curve? He made a big move that insulated their tablet empire with a great product that didn’t sacrifice any of the company’s highly held principles. How often does a corporation pull that off successfully?

  2. The unidentified Andriod doubled its month over month share from 0.2 to 0.4. That’s got to be worth something to the Android folks. The only other ‘growth’ was the Nook and Surface with the Nook outpacing the Surface. Go figure, Even with MS giving away Surfaces.
