“Next time you’re on a flight and the captain signals that it’s the OK to resume using your mobile device, you may be able to pull up free live TV, if you’re on a Wi-Fi Southwest Airlines flight,” Joan E. Solsman reports for CNET.
“The carrier and Dish have joined up to offer passengers access to live TV and up to 75 on-demand shows on the airline’s more than 400 Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft,” Solsman reports. “Dish’s competitor DirecTV has long had a partnership with JetBlue, providing its own satellite service in seat backs. JetBlue has also said it would launch fast free in-flight Wi-Fi this year.”
Solsman reports, “Dish specifically touted the service for iPad, the top tablet in the market, but a spokeswoman said the service is available on most Wi-Fi-enabled devices with Web browsers, so Android and Windows devices are eligible too.”

I watched Netflix while on a free WiFi flight from Las Vegas to Spokane WA on Southwest.
Umm, you obviously have to pay for Netflix!

159 people aboard a 737 and if they all have iPads means another 240 pounds onboard or in average Woz weight. Probably a lot less then their older entertainment and crummy projection systems.
Aren’t folks with iPads already flying with them? The only additional weight I see is for the wireless router.
