“I’ve been testing Apple’s newest ultraportable laptop for a couple of weeks, and I can routinely get through a full 8 to 12-hour workday without a boost, and with battery to spare,” Christina Bonnington writes for Wired. “Heck, I went an entire Netflix-filled weekend without needing to plug it in once.”
“Where the mid-2012 model got a very respectable 7 hours of battery life, the 2013 model is spec’d at a full 12 hours,” Bonnington writes. “It delivers on that promise, and then some. I can forget the charger at home or at work and totally not stress about it.”
“Apple clearly knows not to mess with a good thing, and much about the Air is unchanged,” Bonnington writes. “The 2013 model shares the same lithe, featherlight chassis as its predecessors, which is fine because honestly if it was any thinner, it would be a safety hazard. The keyboard and the trackpad are still exemplary, the best in the industry.”
Bonnington writes, “The 13-inch Air still sports the same 1440 x 900 pixel resolution as its predecessors. Obviously, it’s a jump we’re all waiting for, but in my opinion, the battery life boost more than makes up for the fact that you can see pixels when you smoosh your face 6 inches from the screen, and you wouldn’t see such great battery performance if Apple had included a high-density display… The 13-inch MacBook Air is as close to perfection as a consumer notebook gets.”

The only possible improvement that wouldn’t affect performance or battery life would be a IPS screen, granted that a Retina screen would suck too much battery life. Maybe with a future and improved Intel processor.

I gotta say, I LOVE this new Macbook Air, its great.
I typically carry a Alienware MX18 with a overclocked 4th gen I7 processor, SLI 680MXs, Triple SSDs, a Blu Ray Burner, 18 inch screen and extra battery in a big ass laptop bag to run simulations ( still at half speed ugh ), for cilents, and for a powerhouse, Its an AMAZING laptop, Apple doesn’t make anything that can compare, not even close. For work? Cant beat it.
But when Im traveling for work, i can’t wait to try out my New Macbook Air and its 12 hour battery life, light build, amazing OS, and rock solid performance for what its for.
Can my Badass Alienware laptop do things even an iMac cannot do? yes? its a fucking powerhouse that Apple cant match.
BUT.
Can my New Macbook Air, and maybe a RPMP I’ll add over the summer be far more portable and usable for when I go out on a new city or town all over the world? YES!!!!
Steve Jobs was totally right.
The high end PC will be the pickup truck, it can do heavy lifting when you need it, and the badass performance when you need it.
The iPad/MacBooks will be the consumer car, that can do 80% of everything anyone ever needs while being more portable and practical.
If you ever need your huge video encoded, put it on a flash drive and let a freind with a high end PC do it for you in 1/5th the time, much like if you need a guy with a truck to help you move stuff in your house.
Soon the Windows PC will be the pickup truck, popular tho not super duper common.
The Mac/iPad will be the car. Everyone will have one.
I want an Air!
