DuckDuckGo, the search engine that offers better search and real privacy, today announced the launch of DuckDuckGo Search & Stories for iPhone and iPod touch. DuckDuckGo Search & Stories offers anonymous search, instant answers and a new take on stories. The app’s search suggestions, based on the content of the article, tie the elements of search and stories together.
“DuckDuckGo Search & Stories recreates the web search experience on your iPhone or iPod touch, enabling you to search anonymously and find instantly,” said Gabriel Weinberg, CEO and founder, DuckDuckGo, in a statement. “Our new app features a homepage with stories we know you’ll love, based on their proven social value.”
In light of the latest news cycle, users are turning to privacy-first services. DuckDuckGo’s anonymous search resonates with users because it does not collect or share personal information. The app has the same instant answers users have come to love on the web and in addition debuts both an autocomplete service that allows you to complete answers, instead of just searches, as well as one that is designed for !bangs, allowing you to search directly on other sites.
DuckDuckGo’s new take on stories presents the most interesting news from across the web by leveraging hand-selected, crowd-sourced, curated feeds that feature strong social proof. Stories are also deduplicated, stripped of any depressing content and feature only the most compelling, fun images. Each story comes complete with a readability view that provides a fast and consistent experience.
“We’re making search easy, convenient and safe and pairing it with interesting stories,” said Weinberg. “Whenever you have a few free minutes, just open up the app and we are sure that you’ll find something interesting right on the home screen.”

“DuckDuckGo Search and Stories”: I tried this app. There was a bug that froze the story list in a pulsating fog. I did the restart thing and it was fine again.
I quickly learned why Adrianna Huffington insists we make our bedrooms mobile device-free, and that my spectacles look like Carl Rove’s.
I love the way this app pulls stories from the web, cleans out the ad clutter, sidebars and all the rest. It’s a highly curated stream of stories—crowdsourced and ranked according to some kind of quality-of-life scale. I didn’t mind a nanny algorithm selecting stories. A Google search would’ve turned up many more, but some of them would be gun-to-the-head awful, and the result list would be salted and framed by ads.
and the NSA would know what you are interested in, along with all the advertizing dollars on the planet !-)

The searches are as good as other major search engines and the company doesn’t place tracking cookies on your computer or share your private information with advertisers and the NSA.
