Samsung CEO: ‘Patent disputes against Apple will continue’

“Samsung CEO J.K. Shin had a lot to say this week, reassuring investors that the company’s latest flagship smartphone is indeed selling well, while at the same time dismissing the notion that the company is anywhere close to détente with its chief rival, Apple,” Kevin Bostic reports for AppleInsider.

“Samsung’s stock dropped six percent last week when a J.P Morgan report warned investors that sales of its recently launched Galaxy S4 smartphone could fall short of expectations,” Bostic reports. “‘I can say sales of the Galaxy S4 smartphone are fine. It’s been selling well,’ Shin told reporters after meeting with executives from Samsung’s partners.”

Bostic reports, “Shin also commented on Samsung’s ongoing worldwide patent struggle with Apple, saying that Samsung has no plans to relent or concede. ‘Patent disputes against Apple will continue,’ Shin said.”

  1. The latest dumb Samsung commercial I’ve seen, highlighting a feature that answers the phone when you wave your hand over the phone (what?), and another feature that seems to imply that the phone’s camera is ALWAYS turned ON and watching YOU (scary). I guess the touching phones to transfer data thing was a bust.

Samsung… Specializing in gimmickry and mimicry.

    1. All in all, Samsung’s handsets never did so well
      until Samsung used Google’s Android.

Meaning, that is a “half baked” stolen product they got.

Google Android is going to version 5.
      That should never have occurred.
The real threat, as always, has been Android.

This should shows (in legal disputes) how IMPORTANT the software (the operating system) is. And how Apple has said all this time, the complete PRODUCT is the combination of SOFTWARE and HARDWARE – together making the innovating solution – the product. And how the product looks, acts, feels and is used was ripped off both in Software and Hardware. Even a “light bulb” or “film” had better protection long ago when it was invented and innovated on.

Android continues to live. That is wrong.
Apple should have attacked Google with a much more forceful plan and focused on Android – later go after the design from Samsung.

Now Android pretty much offers more then iOS and Apple plays catch-up. Android will change and evolve and leave behind the trails of what it copied… the lines where Android was stolen will fade and Apple shall never have opportunity to change that. Its far too late now. iOS 7 – the new BEGINNING, ugh… what your real beginning was not a well thought out plan? The new beginning expresses defeat, falling behind in improvements. The design philosophy for hardware and remaining true to the aesthetics and principles of deign as a slow evolving process… sounds fine and Ives retains that well. The slow and evolving iOS1 to 6 has also been the case.
iOS7 and iPHONE 7 (yes seven) skip the 4S and 5s – just name it properly – so both iOS7 and iPhone 7 best match RADICAL changes – so far iOS7 doesn’t go far enough. It would is Apple truly put SIRI far ahead and pushed VOICE UI more – to differentiate the similarities. No more TOUCH interface make it an all ‘Voice’ entirely driven device. Get going on change Apple.

It sure looks like Windows vs Macintosh all over again.

  2. I think Samsung has to no choice but to keep going because stopping now will mean confirmation of “defeat” which will bring “shame” to Korean Samsung culture.

  3. Talking about Samsung’s culture which means Asian Culture in general, they don’t think out of the box, therefore they don’t have ability to innovate, but they have ability to imitate very well.

  4. Samsungs felony

Why is not the fact that Samsungs Chairman was convicted of felony fraud not mentioned by the press?
On January 14, 2008, Lee Kun-Hee’s home and office were raided by the Korean police for an ongoing probe into accusations that Samsung is responsible for a slush fund used to bribe influential prosecutors, judges, and political figures in South Korea.[17] On April 4, 2008 he denied allegations against him for his role in the Samsung Slush Funds scandal.[18] After the second round of questioning by the South Korean prosecutors which occurred on April 11, 2008, Lee was quoted by reporters saying “I am responsible for everything. I will assume full moral and legal responsibility.” On July 16, 2008, The New York Times reported that the Seoul Central District Court found him guilty on charges of financial wrongdoing and tax evasion. Prosecutors requested that Lee be sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $347 million. The court fined him $109 million and sentenced him to 3 years suspended jail time. Lee has not responded to the verdict.

    >>>>CONCLUSION- Scamscum is run by a toilet load of unethical dirtbags<<<<

  5. Before anyone accuses Samsung of copying consider how Apple ripped off Android & Windows Phone 8 for the crapalicious iOS 7 icons. That is derivative crap.

But none of the brain addled fanboys are complaining about that.

Let Samsung copy the crap out of Apple. Somebody has to prod the dickheads in Cupertino to innovate.

    1. Get out of here you nutcase. How can Apple, the inventor of the modern smartphone, copy derivative Android or Windows phones, when those products already are derivatives of the iPhone? For it’s part, if Apple IS copying those second-rate products, it really is copying itself.

    2. Gotta ask a core fundamental question here. Who’s the first to bring to market a:
Mobile Internet device that fits in your pocket, a music player, and a Phone, All in one device operates all by a touch controlled screen, using a simple tool you always have? Who brought that to market? All the relevant ppl have compared Steve Jobs to the great Thomas Edison.
The loud, boisterous, and classless masses, now the majority lemmings, pine over their android.
Hey you flood the market with cheap crap and everyone gives the illusion of of having a ‘smartphone’. You choose fragmentation. I choose a stable platform that is a smooth as butter, I know iOS thru and thru, why the hell would I want to step down to a device that was completely copied from the iPhone when I can have the iPhone itself? iPhone came out in 2007. Android came out 2010. Trusting Eric Schmidt as an ethical member of the board at apple was the fatal mistake. The thieves at Google are perfect partners for ScamScum.
Why do R&D when you can ride the coattails of the pioneer of the true smartphone. Let me quote a top executives words to scamscums R&D when replicating the iPhone, “this and the iPhone are like heaven and earth, we need to make it more closer to the iPhone”

    3. Yeah, what he said. I mean, it ‘s not like apple came out with a handheld device using icons back in the early 90’s…

Dude… you are better off, on the meds. At least you are rational.

  6. No one ripped off anyone in general terms. We all borrow the best and move on. iPhone wasn’t the first smartphone.

Samsung is playing the quarter to quarter results game.

Apple is in it for a 20+ year run. They started with UNIX and built and built up the OS and software tools until they could deliver their desired vision.

Samslung is just hanging around grabbing the low hanging fruit without spending the decade to get ready to provide a top to bottom consumer integrated system.

I don’t see any company committing the dollars to build a top to bottom system where they control the entire system like Apple.

    1. Only a mindless AndyBot like you would say stupid nonsense like that. Everyone and their dog knows that Apple is on top. ShameSlam and Screwgle will never make it.

        1. Thug mentality, a sure sign of a fandroid. If you lack the capacity to intellengtly debate, then throw around cyber insults. Whatta Champ you are, lol.

  7. The Koreans have proven they don’t have an original bone in their bodies. If the auto industry is watching you will see the same patent infringement suits against their cars and SUVs! It is painfully obvious they have to steal to make money.

    1. And as Windows popularity died off, Apple adopted more Windows like features… its happening again, as iOS borrows more Android like features. So Sad, yet from the Ives speech on Simplicity, the faith is restored…?

HEY, any designer will tell you SIMPLICITY is not owned by anyone. It is the goal for all things affected by design, coding, interior, industrial, advertising, marketing, architecture, landscaping etc. Simplicity is the aim. But Simplicity should not be BRANDED or by fashion trends. USe these colours because they are in style. Use this font its in fashion. He is not handsome because he not slim. Put him in an expensive suit and he will looks better. She is not beautiful because she is too big. Add accessories and makeup and she can appear more attractive. Is this the new Direction? Dress it up, make it Appear more the FASHION and follow? Ha ha. Seems so.

Flattery goes now to Android and Windows, where before Apple said they copied, now Apple follows the fashion they set. This is no, new beginning. it is defines no new principles of design. It brakes no rules, it has no innovation. IOS merely fits in more into the crowd not stand out. Cater to FEELING of the hardware would be razor sharp, cold and and dull. BUt Fortunately Steve saw value in ‘visual stimulus’ eye popping graphics, a continued “trademark” from OSX. OSX vivid 3D shadowed textured rich and deep icons were COPIED and changed the computing universe.

This time around – Apple is not leading the industry.

      1. Sam Spade:

You won’t get anywhere with these idiot fanboys. They are losers that worship a brand because they have nothing to live for. It’s sad and pathetic.

APPLE COPIED HP’S WEBOS AND WINDOWS PHONE WITH IOS 7 FULL STOP.

APPLE COPIED HP’S WEBOS AND WINDOWS PHONE WITH IOS 7 FULL STOP.

APPLE COPIED HP’S WEBOS AND WINDOWS PHONE WITH IOS 7 FULL STOP.

Microsoft has pioneered the simplistic design with the Metro UI. That’s thin fonts, borderless buttons, and a flat UI. Apple copied it. No, Apple didn’t come out with this first, MS did. MS innovated the Metro UI and Apple copied it.

And Apple copied WebOS with the new iOS multitasking. Blatant rip off. Swipe cards up to quit application or get rid of application windows. Gesture horizontally to scrub through windows. Total WebOS rip off. Blatant.

Apple the innovator! I’m a fanboy and I simply won’t believe that Apple copies.

        Fucking mindless fanboys.

  8. The definition of shameless and unrepentant:
Patent disputes against Apple will continue

And therefore, so will your mindless mimicry of everything Apple. Yeah, we figured. Unimaginative, uninventive, uninspired. You have soooo screwed yourself Samsung. Enjoy your business plan.

  9. Hah. These guys are amazing.
If they don’t want to share their technology, DON’T contribute it to a standard! I mean, really. My personal Samsung ban stands firm. They actually make really good monitors and cameras, but I don’t buy them any more.
