“A professional model for stock image site Shutterstock.com,” John Brownlee reports for Cult of Mac, “once did an entire set of images called ‘Pretty Woman Lying On The Sofa Holding Her Smartphone.’ And that smartphone in question is clearly an iPhone 3G/S.”
“Okay,” Brownlee reports. “[Check out this] recent Samsung ad, and what do you know?”
Brownlee reports, “The model’s iPhone has been artlessly photoshopped into a Samsung Galaxy S4, even though that device features a 5-inch display that is so large, the phone’s tiny size in the model’s hand implies a woman who is over eight-feet tall.”

MacDailyNews Take: Here’s an idea for Tim Cook: Take the entire executive staff at Apple for a ride in the Gulfstream. Fake your deaths in a tragic plane crash. Wait the requisite 15 minutes for Samsung to copy you and then say, “Hey, nope, all wrong. Sorry, we landed just fine. A-OK! Minor miscommunication. AT&T iPhone, you know (sheepish grin). But, seriously, thanks for your concern. Our hearts go out to our slavish copiers from South Korea.”

lol
another handjob by Samdung.
I share your contempt, but coining words like Samdung or Samsiht feels juvenile to me.
i like to use Slamdung – and i feel it is suitable not juvenile as it expresses my dislike for the company
gee, I really don’t give a rat’s ass what feels juvenile to you…thanks so much for your input.
now I’m going to go and toilet paper your front yard.
Samsung. Samsung is a bunch of copying assholes. There do you feel better?
And I dated a woman almost 8 feet tall once. I let her play power forward.
I dated an 8 foot tall woman too. Unlike I just gave her a big hug….and then mysteriously I went temporarily deaf during the hug
🙂
…coining words like Samdung or Samsiht feels juvenile to me.
Rating survey.
Which of the following, well deserved Samsung insults do you find to be juvenile? Check all that apply.

“Put down your pencils! That’s enough vulgarity for today children.” 😉
√ slamdung – least juvenile
A+
Samesung
lol? Really, lol? What, are you a teenage girl? And you call me an idiot.
@CupertinoJoe
Botvijerk calls everyone “idiot” and (usually) much worse if they dare to have any opinion on any topic that is different from his.
Exactly. Think about that nasty bitch in Dr. Zhivago when he returns home and finds his house is now the residence of parasitic communist vagrants. The bitch laughs at Zhivago as he trudges upstairs to the one room left to his family.
Just kidding. But botvinnik often comes off as a throwback to that attitude.
and then need a better copier/scanner.
Samsung makes copiers/scanners?
yeah they do.
Wow… That is just too funny 🙂
I am not in the LEAST surprised. We all knew darn well that ShameScam would do something like this. But this is common in the lamestream media. Knowing how big the Illuminati media emperor is, you would know that this is….UGHJ! This is why I hate the mainstream! Always go with indie movies, music, foreign tv shows, and indie tech companies like Apple, and the many individuals who make the different Linux distort. I personally use Tin Foil Hat Linux, but for phones, it defiantly the iPhone.
The Illuminati doesn’t control anything. The real power are the Lizard People. They are everywhere. They control everything on this planet.
Yeah..and I think that Robert Englund guy is one of ’em, too
you youngsters won’t get the Robert Englund reference.
@MDN take:
Great idea!!! I love it.
Eight feet tall—pfft.

I believe women should be put up so high on a pedestal you can look up their dress. – Steve Martin (What I Believe routine)
Wait. If Samsung did this without permission from Shutterstock or the photographer (whoever owns the rights to the picture), can’t they face legal consequences?
Oh, wait. Right. Samsung. Never mind.
The marketing agency that buys the image from Shutterstock can do ANYTHING to the images they buy as long as it’s in the license.
To be fair, that image was bought by an art director of from which ever agency was creating the ad for Samsung. I doubt anyone but the AD or designer working for the AD knew about what was Photo-shopped out.
It obviously wasn’t an important ad or there would have been a photo-shoot with the new product and actual models.
That said, Samsung/Google still suck for a variety of other reasons.
as the writer said if samsung paid for the shot they can do what they want with it…
BUT it’s weird that a company that just made 5 billion bucks off phones would use STOCK PHOTOS instead of hiring a pro (like annie leibovitz) to shoot their ads. Steve Jobs got Ridley Scott to shoot their superbowl ad.
Using stock photos means ANYBODY can have the same photo, imagine a company selling anti diarrhea pills has that girl holding a bottle of their finest and their ads appear near Samsung’s…
samsung is cheap or what?
ok – i think i get this, the proportion at which the S4 was placed into the picture – calculates to the woman being 8 feet tall – why because Samsung placed the phone in inaccurately.
ok – not only does Slamdungers shamelessly cover over an Apple image, it does their own product, a major injustice, because they placed their phone in the image much too small.
After reading the comments on this site for the past couple of years or so, I can safely say Apple fans are the most angriest of the tech fans. If Apple makes such quality products, why are you guys still angry?
Because of you. Pillock
who you callin a pillock you toffey-nosed bint!!……….I heard John Cleese say that once…hiLarious
there you see it Larry all in good tasteful adult trashy fun
Angry about what Larry boy?
Apple makes quality products, the products may not be perfect in every way, yet they are a heck of a lot better than the dark side with Windblows. You tell me what’s another alternative, Linux?
The anger might come from the state of the stocks and the sarcasm directed at one another? But for the most part I’d say we ain’t angry at each. But the competition weasels getting away like Windblows got away with copying before Android and Slamdung.
Oh an one last thing, if you don’t like the fun we have here you know where you can go right?
It’s not Apple fans, Larry. It’s a few busy characters who think that name-calling and swearing constitute thought.
How profound… inventing names to call Samsung is thought not matter how you measure it.
Oh come on. Don’t quibble with the literal meaning of the word. I’m sure you know, very well, what I mean.
“Wordplay is the highest form of comedy”
Just ask Bill Clinton.
quibble, dribble, scribble no matter what you do someone will find it offensive – oops yet – dang, another thought – whats that – yup ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh and another brain fart too – what to take a whiff? ta hee, now how juvenile will I be rated here?
NO worries, its Just a regular day of good fun that we have here at MDN, Larry.
Do you think your tiny little self survey constitutes judging all tech fans whom are Apple faithfuls as truly being the most angriest? I challenge you to prove that.
I found refuge right here at macdailynews.com after too many blistering excoriations at slashdot.org, a peculiarly humourless collection of hormone-poisoned basement-dwellers, Infotech and Peoplesoft casualties, dark mages of the Internet, security alarmists, jaded IT managers and help desk slaves; all of them angry, all of them male, all of them Experts, may God help us all.
Apple should present this to judge Lucy to ‘splain Samsung’s blatant DNA.
Would Koh care? I don’t think so.
At least It highlights and exhibits for the record, samscum’s defiant flaunting and contemptful disregard of IP.
A Samsung’s executive comment after seeing Apple’s newest products,
“We’re going to need a bigger copier”
ok….8 foot tall…brunette…lying on a bed…holding a non-apple phone……..what’s the problem again?!
Say, that’s a nice Samsung waffle iron the model is holding!
Maybe we should have a contest here to see who can come up with the most ridiculous picture of the model holding a Samsung product. I’m in! 😆
They apparently have no shame, no class, and no idea how stupid this makes them look.
That’s not even a good photoshopping. Not only is the scale wrong, but so is the depth and angle. The phone needs to be blurred out and angled so that it matches the angle of her fingers and the placement of her hand on the Z-axis. Awful work.
Not to defend that shameless no-originality company, but it is a stock photo. Stock photos (in general) are “generic” images available for the purchaser/user to do what they want. Although the model was holding an Apple product the original image was made to simply show a person using a smartphone.
OK. So WHO around here was criticizing me for pointing out that Samsung are PARASITIC SCUM?!
Come on!
Hands up so I can shoot your down!
Last chance!
… cowards all. 😛 😉
I see the religious fundamentalist quotient is alive and well in the Apple camp.
I prefer Shamdung, but screw them and Apple in real life.
Speaking of lives…more people should have one.
Religious what?
OK, so you don’t like Samsung or Apple. So YOUR life is spent championing neither of them, denigrating both of them, just being negative in general. I think we’ve got the picture. Much appreciated.
camparison based preference is preferable to myopic loyalty.
Ultimately I don’t give a crap about Apphole or ShamScum(nice)–I just taunt people who pick sides with half the information…and…ya velcome.
So you’re a troll. Thought so! 😆
You are correct sir!!! typical fanboi: “You disagree with ME, you’re a troll” or “This is FUD” or “These analcysts…blah blah blah, wah wah wah”
blahblahblah indeed. Yawn induction achieved. But please rant on…
The lighting on the phone is way wrong compared to the lighting on her face. What hacks. Maybe it’s a high schoolers project.
“Let the intern do it. Nobody cares what we ripoff anymore. We are the boss of everyone!” – J.K. Shin, Samsung
(just kidding Samsung! You’re stinking rat parasitic bastards. But J.K. Shin didn’t really say that. Parody!). 😉
Defamation of character! The model should sue. 😉
I can’t believe this happened. And I love Samsung products too! But I do love Apple more.
I’m a retoucher and photographer by profession. In my opinion the person who did the retouching doesn’t have a clue what depth of field is. The models face is in focus in the original shot and everything else is soft, in the Samsung version the phone is perfectly in focus. It shows lack of skill and inexperience, which leads me to conclude that its highly unlikely to be an official Samsung ad – if it really is then god help them.
I’m just finding Samsung’s antics to be more and more silly.
The problem is that all these shorts if shameless things Samsung does all the time never comes out to normal people. They will never know. I think it stay witching the tech press. We are maybe the only ones that care. Or see why any one should care. The only info that teaches out to the normal consumer is price.
