“Commander Chris Hadfield’s tear-jerking farewell to the International Space Station: a cover of David Bowie’s classic space song, Space Oddity, [was] filmed and performed by Hadfield himself in zero-g,” John Brownlee reports for Cult of Mac.
“Chris Hadfield filmed and edited his version of Space Oddity using his iPad and Apple’s official GarageBand app,” Brownlee reports.

At first I thought ‘OMG… he’s dead?”
Poor phrasing on the headline MDN.
Awesome!
Chris is a pretty cool guy. Was a good choice to send up as he takes and shares tons of neat photos
Shoulda used a Note, but then, he IS old
You do know the Note was Samsung just copying a Star Trek TriCorder!
but then, you’re just trolling… or forgot to put “/s” at the end of your post. 😆
just funning; that was for all the samsung fanboys
sorta figured
“Shot!!!” With hat headline, I thought he was dead!
“There’s a Starman waiting in the sky.
He’d like to come and meet us,
But he thinks he’d blow our minds”
-Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
I guess no one told him that you CAN’T do REAL work on an iPad.
Great video!
So Bill Gates about the iPad being useless is full of SH*T! LOL
When I saw this yesterday I was amazed by the quality of the video and camera work.
Impressive, I saw some of the video on the BBC news last night, and I thought it had been professionally shot with a handycam and edited on a laptop in Finalcut Pro, or something similar. Well done Commander!
I’ve been very impressed by his photography, too, his shots taken at night of various cities are particularly beautiful.
Really going to miss his regular Facebook posts, it’s unlikely the ISS will have such a charismatic commander with his photographic skills as a replacement.
David Bowie FTW
Very cool!
I will be showing it to all my friends.
Should be featured on NASA’s POD any day now.
Splendid! The first Canadian to walk in space. Ironic that he used iPads instead of Canadian BlackBerry PlayBooks—after all, iPads are toys and the Playbook is for Real Work. (“Amateur Hour is Over”—I’m still gnashing my teeth over that one)
My only criticism: What are mustaches for, again? I never have understood.
I have always understood it as a vanity thing, in the sense that some men’s faces look better, or they think they do, with facial hair than without (hiding scars, weak features, etc.). Beyond that, many groups have social guidelines or strictures encouraging or discouraging such personal displays, in order to qualify for or to signal group membership. I bother to explain this only because one doesn’t expect radioactive fish to know much about hair.

Insight from the outside…..
Fascinating, thank you. Another Jefferson supporter, thank God! You know, Robertson kind of reminds me of you…except for backup quarterback part 😉
Well, considering I was a wide receiver!
(so THAT’S why quarterbacks made passes at me….?)
Incidentally, that was at the college my ex attended.
Thank you for your patience in helping me overcome my follicular shortcoming.
I don’t want to shave.. thus I have a mustache & beard.
Ah now, a BEARD! ‘Tis a manly thing.

I’ve seen a lot of high Canadians but I’ve never seen one that high.
His rendition of Space Oddity was good too.
I hope he recovers.
Fitting how the three laptops are all floating “dead”. Sad that this is the first time I’ve seen it mentioned that the video was shot and edited on an iPad. I assumed when I saw it, that it was done on a professional camera, like a Canon 5D, it’s that good in HD.
I wish I could lift my legs up and I just stay there… so cool!
that’s what she said…..
Ground control to Maj. Tom.
Fair winds and following seas, commander.
Only with Apple.
It should be noted that only the audio was recorded on an iPad using Garageband. I know they have alot of time on their hands but editing all that video would have been painful on the iPad.
