Bidding at Charitybuzz on “Coffee with Apple CEO Tim Cook at Apple Headquarters in Cupertino” to benefit The RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights has now closed.
The estimated value when bidding started was US$50,000. The winning bid was for $610,000. The item was donated by Apple CEO Tim Cook. The coffee klatsch will last 30-60 minutes.
The fine print:
Valid for 2 people. Cannot be resold or re-auctioned. Expires 1 year from the close of auction. To be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon date. Travel and accommodations are not included. Winning bidder and guest(s) subject to security screening. We expect all winning bidders and their guests to conduct themselves appropriately when attending an experience won at Charitybuzz. Polite manners and respect for the generous donor and adherence to any rules or parameters are a must.
“The $610,000 bid was placed by a newcomer to the auction who had not previously bid before, known only as ‘a********s,'” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors. “While CharityBuzz will not release the name of the high bidder, it is possible that the winner will come forward to take advantage of the publicity surrounding the auction.”

I wonder if they will validate the parking ticket?
what a colossal waste of time.
It’s a waste of time to organize charities, or to buy 30-60 minutes with Tim Cook, or to read the article on MDN? Clarification please.
well, it’s like the rich, fat lady that garners great media attention when she hosts a free Thanksgiving meal for the poor…however, she conveniently forgets that poor people eat more than once a year.
$610,000 could help quite a few people eat more than just one meal. Besides, even the longest journey begins with but a single step. Why disparage this successful charitable event? You have no class, botvinnik. None at all.
The event is for the glorification of the organizers. It is an exercise in pointless vanity..similar to your posts, Melvin.
Methinks the botvinnik doth complain too much in truth.
It’s not all about vanity. There may be some assuaging of guilt mixed in with the adulation of self righteousness. The true measure of one’s altruism is if it is done without public acclumation.
Ever the professional curmudgeon, eh? We need you more than ever, now that Andy Rooney can’t serve up our weekly dose of whinging.
It wouldn’t be a big deal except Tim Cook has made it a big deal. All that’s missing is a parade and marching band. Hell, it’s not even Cook’s own money. I really can’t give any kudos to Cook or the person who wants to known as the the individual who had a cup of Joe with the CEO of Apple. I think the whole thing is more about them than whatever group or groups get a cut of the cash.
More money was lost yesterday by Apple investors every second then what was raised by the “Coffee with Tim Cook” fund raiser.
Where is the PR and did Apple miss the need for their buy back yesterday?
Someone get Tim Cook and the Apple board some coffee. Then give them the phone number for the stock broker and tell them to either start buying back AAPL shares like the said they would do or just go home and let anyone else do their job!
The joke is that Tim was the winning bidder: he just wanted a half-hour of quiet time.
Please don’t tell me the winning big is from Samsung family..
Damn… I had a $615,000 2nd mortgage pending in hopes of sharing that coffee with Tim.
Will the winner pay ?
I would like a dinner with him, so I could ask him why is he doing weird stuff like making iPhone 5 a bit taller. Steve Jobs would have made iphone 5 a lot more impressive than it is. I am sure the Illuminati has gotten Google to brainwash Tim Cook to do this. Google is using sophisticated brainwashing technology developed by the Illuminati so they could bring on their reign of terror. Tim Cook is an Illuminati shill. Schiller for CEO.
Do you seriously imagine that the taller iPhone 5 was only developed after Steve died ?
How did the auction for coffee with Ballmer go? What, there isn’t one? I would bid to see him do the monkey dance live once again…
