Latest New York Times anti-Apple article swallows its own premise

“The New York Times, you may recall, won a Pulitzer Prize last month for turning up the heat on Apple in a nine-part series — seven of which were based on the dubious premise that Apple was more guilty than its competitors of such sins as outsourcing work, sidestepping taxes, using patents as weapons and turning a blind eye on labor abuses in its Asian supply chain,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt writes for Fortune. “Why the New York Times picked on Apple is no mystery. The world’s most valuable company made a big, fat target guaranteed to draw readers — not to mention gullible Pulitzer jurists.”

“But the premise of Tuesday’s piece is bizarre, even for the Times. The thesis is clearly spelled out in the headline (Foxconn Tries to Move Past the iPhone) and in the nut graph: ‘But now Foxconn, a potent symbol of the perks and perils of globalization, is taking a step that, not all that long ago, would have seemed unthinkable: it is contemplating life far, far beyond Apple,'” P.E.D. writes. “Yes, readers, Apple is doomed, and to survive Cupertino’s demise Foxconn must strike out on its own.”

P.E.D. writes, “Why would Foxconn be doing this? You have to read all the way to the kicker to discover that the Times‘ sources think that Terry Gou [founder and chairman of Foxconn] might not be trying to get away from Apple after all. In fact, it might be just the opposite.”

MacDailyNews Take: The NYT is irrevocably broken. Sans credibility, the NYT is just a waste of paper and bits. We pity the trees that were felled, the phosphors burned, and the LEDs drooped in order for Times’ hacks to spread their transparent bile.

  1. Hey NYT! You want another Pulitzer? How about you do some real Jounalism? A big investigative report needs to be done on Samesung’s efforts to pay for anti-Apple headlines, Articles, Fake postings, comments & reviews. Samesung fears having their corporate warfare smear campaign exposed. look how quickly they reacted to the Taiwan HTC investigation by the FTC. Maybe then, even the Hee Haw demographic will decide against giving Samesung their money.

  2. Hey, MDN and all its followers, I completely agree with your characterization of the pathetic NYT that, in addition to your take, wants to turn our country into an European socialists system. However, their ongoing review of Apple is far more on target than the blind following on this site. The company is broken, expectations of what’s to come this year will be totally unimpressive, and until Tim Cook is gone, it’s not going to get better. The sooner you quit defending the indefensible the sooner AAPL will get out of the embarrassing collapse it has experienced and the sooner we’ll see something WOW, just WOW again.

    1. For your info. Jay, Apple Corp. is in better shape than ever. The value of a company’s stock on any given day, or even its short-medium term trends, no matter how frustrating, or rewarding, is rarely an actual measure of how well or poorly a company is doing as a business. I know you probably already know this, but, just in case your as naive as you sound I thought I’d share that with you.

  3. Decades ago, I used to subscribe NYT’s Sunday Edition just for the Science coverage. Today (up-to-the-minutes or seconds) information are easily accessible from multiple sources, printed media are increasingly become less relevant. With NYT fighting for survival, I will not be surprised to see NYT continue its attack on Apple (or other companies) for no purpose other than “attention grabbing ” .
    my 2 cents…

    1. Hey, does that make it a snail? Eating and defecating from the same – um – hole? Being a snail is probably not a great characteristic for a news corp – from several povs!

  4. The article (not the CNN comment) isn’t that bad at all. It says that Foxconn’s revenues are about 40% due to Apple, and that their first quarter revenue dropped 19.2%. Thus, a little diversification is not a bad idea. And the very last comment about Apple is complimentary towards Apple: ” ‘Their gamble now is if Apple will put out a TV, and they should know better than anyone else in the world,’ said Mr. Wu, the Credit Suisse analyst. ‘They’re making a bet that it’ll work.’ “
