“What will happen to BlackBerry?” Anton Wahlman writes for The Street. “In brief, it will most likely be acquired. The mobile computing game is too big for the even bigger companies to allow BlackBerry to remain independent.”
Wahlman writes, “BlackBerry has many strong assets that several parties could exploit and integrate into their operations. For starters: 75 million user base, including the valuable large enterprise users. Peanuts for Apple and Google, but material for Microsoft, Amazon, Nokia, HP and Samsung.”
“Who will NOT acquire BlackBerry? I see only two: Apple and Google,” Wahlman writes “They simply wouldn’t get away with it for anti-trust reasons. Both of these companies have to tread lightly, and BlackBerry isn’t worth it for them given their size and resources.”

The anti-trust issue makes no sense. Apple does not have a monopoly position in phones. Even if they acquired BB they would not have a monopoly position.
I doubt that Apple would be interested in BB. What they could do is form a sort of partnership with someone to put in some money and get access to the patents, just to be safe.

Ballmer will buy this for the right nut to play with. He bought Skype for $8 billion, so it’s not outside the bounds of possibility.
He needs a backup plan in the event Windows Phone goes belly up. MS and BB are fighting over the same corporate customers, like vultures picking the bones of a carcass clean.
Poor old corporate IT doofuses in the armlock of MS on the one hand and BB on the other. And governments love MS and BB, a marriage made in Obama’s socialist heaven.

MDN… as did the intro of Japanese automobiles on US car makers in both the USA and Canada. BlackBerry is relevant with 80+ million users and the OS is very easy to use and intuitive. I know as I use both my iPhone 5 and BB Z10 everyday and short of 23,456 To Do List apps the Z10 holds its own and frankly is a better “Phone” in terms of what the devices should be first and foremost and that is a phone… isn’t not?
Anyone buying Blackberry is using the same logic the republicans used when they chose Romney….”We need to be competitive”…”Yes, so let’s go out and get the guy who couldn’t win before that will assure us victory!”. Blackberry needs to get taken apart for patents.
If Apple bought Blackberry it could take advantage of lower Canadian corporation taxes and gain a large R&D centre full of high grade talent, plus a lot of patents with which to fight patent wars, and QNX which makes control systems for the automotive industry, while keeping the marketing operations separate and thus broadening its market share. It really does make a lot of competitive sense as well.
Also the talent they could acquire would be complementary to Apple’s needs in the automotive arena in particular (most in car screen interfaces are awful) and the Canadian government would not object to the acquisition given undertakings from Apple. It would be accretive to market share and would put Apple close to a computer science oriented university which is a source of talent for companies like Google and Microsoft.

If 75M users is “peanuts” to Apple or Google, then why would either of those companies acquiring Blackberry amount to anti-trust issues?
I don’t see any antitrust issues beyond the cursory “investigation”.
There is plenty of competition in this product space.

Rumor on the street has it that BlackBerry, after once again cheating depth, has contacted both Sony and Nokia to form a syndicate and buy Microsoft.
The plan is to put Windows Surface 8 Mobile and Desktop out of it’s misery once and for all.
I think it’s a damn good idea.
Apple should acquire Blackberry and port their iOS to it while leaving the physical keyboard, buttons, and trackpad intact. I HATE HATE HATE HATE touchscreens.
My iPhone works great but that’s when I touch the screen in precisely the correct way. I’m tired of this. Give me an iPhone with a keyboard layout like Blackberry has. Even better, give me an iPhone with a full screen that slides UP with a blackberry keyboard layout and running iOS.
