Playboy app for iPhone officially launches on Apple’s App Store sans nudity

Playboy‘s new iPhone app keeps it classy,” Mike Snider reports for USA Today. “Pictorials of playmates and other models can be found on the app, which has emerged from months of testing, but there’s no nudity.”

“Apple’s content guidelines prohibit pornographic material, but that doesn’t prevent the subscription-based Playboy app from being provocative, says Josh Schollmeyer, Playboy’s Director of Digital Content,” Snider reports. “‘It forces us to use our imagination to be a little bit more creative,’ he says. ‘I tell all my photographers every picture has to be one of three things. It has to be romantic, whimsical or sexy.'”

Snider reports, “Users can download the app free from Apple’s App store, but to view the latest content they will need to purchase a monthly subscription ($1.99 per month or $19.99 for the year)… ‘What you are seeing on the iPhone is really going to be a pilot program for what we do on the tablet, hopefully within the next year or so,’ Schollmeyer says.”

    1. I recently read that their latest CEO has reorganized the company such that their income is largely based on licensing and merchandising. The magazine and the mansion are still around despite being money losers since they maintain the brand. So the app probably exists just to maintain or expand the brand so they can sell more merchandise stamped with their name.

  1. This hypocritical censorship is a shame. There is nothing wrong in nudity, it is the most natural thing in the world, that only promises love, pleasure and procreation.

As state is separated from church, morality of an act is defined by whether it is harmful or not. Nudity is total opposite of that, and is perfectly healthy thing.

So this censorship makes not sense and it has to go away forever.
