“Chinese state-run newspaper The People’s Daily has called Apple out for its ’empty and self-praising’ response to recent criticism regarding warranties for its iPhone range,” Aaron Souppouris reports for The Verge.
“Apple published a press release on its Chinese portal after state broadcaster CCTV claimed Chinese consumers weren’t getting the same level of service as Americans,” Souppouris reports. “[Apple] said its warranties are ‘roughly the same’ worldwide, noting that while Chinese law requires a 30-day warranty on repairs, it offers either 90 days or until the original warranty is up, whichever is longer. It also clarified its policies on replacing and repairing iPhones, explaining that while iPhone 4 and 4S models can often be repaired, most iPhone 5s will be replaced.”

Who can register on China’s “Twitter” like service and post rebuttals to this trash and lies?
Tell them, we don’t have two year warrantees, they have the same level of service as all Americans, our blood is red too.

Secondly, government itself also knows what they are saying is bullshit, a lot of government officers’ children, family members use iPhone too and they won’t use it if the service is bad. They just has an agenda and a marching order.
Lastly, Chinese people has developed a habit of interpret whatever government media claims reversely. If the media claim someone is bad, then that someone must be good! So it’s actually a good PR for Apple.
I can’t fathom what scenario I’d have to be in to care what China thinks about ANYTHING.
A scenario where you are not a complete dick.
And … I face the same challenge.
If you think about it, these semi-official government attacks on Apple are the result of the success that Apple is having among Chinese consumers.
For crying out loud, the Chinese consumer is paying up to a 60% premium on the gray market for iPhones and iPads. They aren’t doing that for any Chinese product/s.
All Apple has to do to win this war of words, is continue doing what Apple does best.
What makes the Chinese think they aren’t getting the same warranty deal? And why can’t they search and see that for themselves this is a non-issue with worldwide warranty parity? Could it be… Hmmmm… Some kind of disingenuous anti-Apple campaign?
Kinda hard to search when your government censors the search engines and only allows you to see what they want you to. It is the “People’s” Republic of China after all…
Whatever Apple’s service is in China, I venture its a lot better than that provided by the Chinese clone phone makers and Samedung. I’m sure those phone kia=osks are going to give you a 2 year warranty or a new replacement phone. Not!

Haha, funny thing coming from the Chinese. I’m dealing with them spineless thieves every day. Factories give “tail light warranties” all the time (warranty stops when the the guard at the factory gate can’t see your tail lights). As soon as there is a small problem all the factory sales people magically disappear. The bosses are impossible to find too. A product fails SGS test and the factory keeps saying the product is good, they will not return money or products, and the importer has a warehouse full of grap he can’t sell. Sales contracts are meaningles and IPR problems, even products are registered in China, difficult to go after.
The Chinese government should really go after those slime bag factories, but wait, they are too busy counting their own money as being they are the richest bunch of officials in the world.
Empty self praising response. Telling the truth is empty and self praising? Sorry China press but you aren’t going to get anywhere with your empty non-factual press. If an iPhone can be repaired, it will be. If it can’t and it is under warranty it will be replaced. Same situation for a phone that is out of warranty. Only difference is that you have to pay for the repair cost or replacement cost.
Backs on iPhone 4 and 4S can be replaced without replacing the phone. No, Apple won’t replace an iPhone anywhere if only the back plate is damaged. You will get that back plate replaced and that’s it. That goes for anywhere, not just in China.
It would appear the Chinese government is not able to discern between the complaints about Apple’s iPhones and the complaints against the state’s supported knockoff — therein lies the confusion, (not the Confucianism).

Yea, they want equal warranty as the Americans. Yet, the government has no problem about treating their people like kids. Limiting choice, censorship, and slave labor wages.

Wow, that wall sure is working. Isn’t it nice that the Chinese government is keeping it’s attack to a foreign company operating within it’s borders.
I mean it would be really scary if they started to act like some fifth rate nation of morons and buffoons and doing incredulous stuff like I don’t know say going to the United Nations of all places and showing some photos and saying that some country has weapons of mass destructions and wants to UN to sanction their war. Oh no wait, the UN is a DEMOCRATIC organization, and they are communist. Just how would a communist state react, oh yeah, they would have the decency to wait for the vote, and the vetos then ignore them. Although I appreciate your rant, I do not grock how it is germane to the above article or the discussion.
If I was Apple, and I am not in any way – except a humble share holder – I would just casually mention that if China doesn’t like the warranty that Apple offers, maybe Apple should move all of its manufacturing to Taiwan or back to the US (if they could find the talent to do the job).
BUT Apple wouldn’t do that for a couple of many reasons:
1) Supply chain for components is mostly Asian based;
2) China is the biggest potential market for Apple products in the world. (Well, until India catches up as a most over populated nation in the world. Which they are proudly working on. (I was told that by an Indian colleague.)
So, Cook & Co. will continued to play the political game of “working” with the government owned private companies. Anyone who thinks that there is any free enterprise in China has not been there. Unless you count the black market stuff.
All companies are state owned. That is why it is called communism. Now if the companies owned the state (let’s say like the the Corporate – US Federal Government “relationship) then you would have a socialist state.
No matter who is in “office”, if the corporation own the govt through lobbying and direct or indirect contribution and they receive a direct benefit from the elected official, then you have a socialistic state. It isn’t about Dems or Repubs, it is about the control ( Er… influence.) the corporations have in government.
All Apple wants in China is to be able to continue to sell its products and make squillions of dollars in the process. That is what companies do. And Apple does it quite well.

I pretty well like everything that you said, in fact I would add that if China doesn’t like the warranty that Apple offers, maybe China should kick them out, they probably have that power. That makes me think that the smear campaign if it may be called that serves a different purpose, but who knows…
The rest of your post is good too, I don’t really split hairs too much with democratic, communist and socialist states as I see them all as pretty corrupt.
That is where I believe that my post brings in a relevant aspect. You will not that during the discussion that there are several degrading references towards China, and it might be well deserved. I see this however a bit as the pot calling the kettle black and my post is designed to reflect that as I believe that since Apple is an American company, this is an American site and many of the posters slinging mud are Americans.
I believe that America has now become a demoncratic country. It started with Nixon and Kissinger (the OTHER 911) and with George W. Bush’s fiasco. I was just pointing that out, once again attempting to add some perspective with the hope of softening the stance between these two countries and perhaps taking a moment to reflect before going into a mud swinging routine that has not proved very effective in the past.
