Analyst: Apple to launch iPhone 5S, low-cost iPhone with non-Retina display this summer

“Amit Daryanani of RBC Capital Markets issued a note to investors on Friday in which he said he’s received word that Apple plans to launch ‘multiple new phones’ in the June-July timeframe this year,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.

“Specifically, he expects Apple to launch a next-generation flagship handset, a so-called ‘iPhone 5S,’ as well as a more affordable handset,” Hughes reports. “‘The low-end iPhone will have the same 4-inch form factor as the iPhone 5, but will have a plastic casing and no Retina display,’ he said.”

Hughes reports, “Daryanani also expects Apple to launch a new iPad mini and full-size iPad this year, while he said a full-fledged Apple television and so-called ‘iWatch’ smart watch are ‘likely,’ but the timing of their debut is ‘unclear.'”

  1. Analyst; “I have it on good authority that Apple will release something soon but maybe in a while. It will be something that is limited by my imagination but it may save the company from doom.”

  2. I have received word that analysts will continue to pull iPhone stories out of their butt between now and the time that the next iPhone launches.

Sources close to suppliers in the far east have also told me that analysts will also be fabricating large numbers of iPad, iWatch and Apple TV rumours too, but the timing is unclear.

  3. The supply chain is pretty leaky. For these mythical products to be due this summer we would have already seen them leaked.

We have already seen the next ipad and ipad mini cases, as well as the revised iphone 5s case. If have seen these components, which are presumably and most likely being manufactured by the same people, they would have got their grubby little hands on them an leaked them as well.

  4. This is all crazy talk. The Low Cost phones for Apple are always the previous models. Currently they are the 4S and the 4. Why invest in creating a lower-cost iPhone? Just sell the old one (which Apple has been doing for the last 6 years anyway.) I almost wish these ANALysts would shut up. They are nothing more than speculative hit-whores.

    1. “The Low Cost phones for Apple are always the previous models…”

They have been so far, but there is no reason why it always has to be that way. A low cost iPhone that is designed to be efficiently mass produced could be more profitable than keeping an old production line going.

  5. “Amit Daryanani of RBC Capital Markets issued a note to investors on Friday in which he said he’s received word that Apple plans to launch ‘multiple new phones’ in the June-July timeframe this year”

And that word is (cues drum roll and tears open the envelope)..

    Manipulate.

  6. I really hope the whole ‘iWatch’ thing turns out to be a complete smokescreen, with Apple making nothing of the sort, leaving their competition to spend millions developing and making something there’s no real market for.
