Apple starts shipping iMacs with VESA mount adapters as $40 upgrade

“Apple has started shipping its iMac with a built-in VESA Mount Adapter,” Karen Haslam reports for Macworld UK.

“The mount is available with all configurations of the iMac and only adds £36 [US$40] to the price of the iMac,” Haslam reports. “Unformtuately this is a CTO option only, so the VESA mount for the 2012 iMac cannot be purchased separately should you already own a 2012 iMac.”

Apple’s website now states: The iMac with Built-in VESA Mount Adapter is ready to pair with your favorite VESA-compatible wall mount, desk mount, or articulating arm (sold separately). This iMac doesn’t include a stand, so a mount is required. If you don’t already have a mount, you can purchase one when you configure your iMac.

  1. I’m typing this on a 2011 27-inch iMac . . . easy to imagine that thin puppy hanging on the wall behind my desk and taking up zero footprint . . . damn you Apple!

When the retina version comes out someday I’ll have no choice . . . one of my graphic designers is going to inherit my current machine a few days later (or months, depending on Apple’s ability to meet orders)!

  2. Sounds like they still have a downgraded configuration from previous iMacs. You can buy an iMac with a stand or an iMac with a VESA compatible case. No iMac that comes with a stand that can be removed by the owner and replaced with VESA mount adapter. Less good, IMHO.

  3. Add touch to that iMac Apple then hang it on the wall. You would then own the best Windows 8 computer on the market.

Then tweak OSX to work with touch, add some color to that drab GUI and u will have something.

It has a glass panel add the capacitive layer, it’s not that hard.

Owe and it won’t cut into that 50% profit margin you so enjoy.

I hate this, we have all of this tech and no one has put it all together to make a outstanding device.

All because of some design team thinks our arms are going to fall off, come on!!!!!!!!!!

So get busy and add the touch panel on the iMac!!!!!!!
