Apple to release iOS 6.1.2 early next week to address security issues

“According to a report from German language blog iFun, Apple is preparing to release iOS 6.1.2 early next week to address the much talked about Microsoft Exchange bug and passcode vulnerability,” Jordan Kahn reports for 9ti5Mac.

“iFun confirmed the update would land sometime before Feb. 21 based on its checks with carriers,” Kahn reports. “iFun accurately predicted the launch of iOS 6.1.1 through the same sources earlier this month.”

  1. Because this passcode vulnerability is so intuitive and simple.
    1. Lock device
    2. Slide to unlock
    3. Tap emergency call
    4. Hold sleep button until the power down prompt shows. Click cancel, you will notice the status bar turn blue. Type in 911 or your emergency number and click call then cancel it asap so the call dosen’t go through.
    5. Lock your device with the sleep button then turn it on using the home button.
    6. Slide to unlock then hold the sleep button and in 3 seconds tap emergency call. This will spazz out the phone and cause it to open.

    Simple!!!

        1. So put it in quotes and cite your source and perhaps even proofread it yourself and add the “[sic]” annotation. Personally, I don’t care much about misspellings like that, but passing the buck raises my ire just enough to post a reply 😉

        1. Absolutely, never leave your familiar cage of Apple fanboyism. Stay within the confines of your narrow-minded bigotry, self-imposed ignorance, and slavish obedience to the code. You probably aren’t able to handle anything that isn’t spoofed to you by MDN and sanctioned by other fanbois.

        2. Really? You think that because someone who doesn’t own an Android device doesn’t go seek out and frequent Android news sites this makes him all those epithets you threw around? Wow.

          Full disclosure: I’ve never read a Harley Davidson news site, nor an Adidas news site, nor a….

        3. Epithets? Apple fanbois regurgitate epithets regularly when Apple is criticized. Besides, making the casual observation of an Apple fanboy’s inherent bias and hypocrisy alone can generate a slew of cannards. Too bad for their angst and frustration. I never sacrificed my intellect or integrity on the altar of Apple fandom.

        4. Hate? Finding fault with Apple is hate? Disagreeing with Apple fanbois hate? It’s obvious that someone doesn’t repeat the MDN party line you fanbois get your little panties in a bind. Too bad. I couldn’t care less.

        5. My snarky comment was just an attempt at humor. Your response was expected because you are a one-trick pony.

          MacFreek is:

          * Anti-Apple
          * Obsessed with us
          * A negative Nancy

          “I couldn’t care less.”

          Oh I bet you could. (Please make sure your next comment has the term “fanboi”, so everything is uniform and not unique.)

  2. The security vulnerability doesn’t concern me… But I have to use Exchange for work, and leaving my iPhone on my WiFi network since 6.1 slows the network to a crawl. I’ll be very happy once this bug is fixed in 6.1.2.

  3. Is this really that big a deal? To Macfreek, yes. To the relevant population, no.

    Thanks Cubert for highlighting the vulnerability. How many people have actually been affected by this?
