Apple today announced a 128GB version of the fourth generation iPad with Retina display. The 128GB iPad with Wi-Fi and iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular models provide twice the storage capacity of the 64GB models to hold even more valuable content including photos, documents, projects, presentations, books, movies, TV shows, music and apps.
“With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in the press release. “With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”
iPad continues to have a significant impact on business with virtually all of the Fortune 500 and over 85 percent of the Global 500 currently deploying or testing iPad. Companies regularly utilizing large amounts of data such as 3D CAD files, X-rays, film edits, music tracks, project blueprints, training videos and service manuals all benefit from having a greater choice of storage options for iPad. The over 10 million iWork users, and customers who rely on other incredible apps like Global Apptitude for analyzing team film and creating digital playbooks, Auria for an incredible 48 track recording system, or AutoCAD for drafting architectural and engineering drawings, also benefit greatly from having the choice of an iPad with more storage capacity.

The fourth generation iPad features a gorgeous 9.7-inch Retina display, Apple-designed A6X chip, FaceTime HD camera, iOS 6.1 and ultrafast wireless performance. iOS 6.1 includes support for additional LTE networks around the world, and iTunes Match subscribers can download individual songs to their iOS devices from iCloud.

Pricing & Availability
The new 128GB versions of the fourth generation iPad will be available starting Tuesday, February 5, in black or white, for a suggested retail price of $799 (US) for the iPad with Wi-Fi model and $929 (US) for the iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular model. All versions of the 128GB iPad will be sold through the Apple Online Store, Apple retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers.

Hopefully they drop the 16GB (because that’s a rediculous starting point) and they drop prices $100 across the board, so the 32 becomes the new 499/629, 64 is 599/729, and 128 is 699/829. And hopefully they do the same with iPhone next time around.
This “rediculous” price will sell ridiculously well. It is priced right and buyers will appreciate the double memory despite your silly, winey complaint.

The 64GB iPad that I got 2 months ago is now being eclipsed by the 128GB model. Problem is I am not going to run out and get this model as I just upgraded, as much as I’d love to have 2x capacity.
I liked it better when the refresh/new product cycle was more defined. It’s getting hard to stay current on Apple technologies.

Yup, the kids have 16gb minis and we used a Seagate wifi drive to load over 250gb of movies and shows for them to watch on a road trip. 16 might be a little low if you put a lot of pictures and apps on it, but 32 is probably a lot more reasonable. Depends on what you need/want to store, tho.

Now I can finally use an iPad as a proper backup to my laptop while DJing. I usually run AIFF files off my laptop but I could get by with AAC Lossless on a 128GB iPad as backup. Hopefully the next iPhone will be 128GB as well.
I’d love to see 128GB iPhone, but I’d think Apple would prefer to use this to counter the ASP drop due to iPad mini / rumored-iPhone-mini.
It’d be amazing if Apple could maintain $650 ASP for iPhone even if they offer a lower entry price point of $299/349.
Apple could easily have 128 GB iPhone, but they shrunk inner space of iPhone 5 dramatically — comparing to iPhone 4/S — so they had to cut in half number of flash memory chips that phone’s main board can fit.
If rumors of a 13-megapixel camera in the next iPhone are true, it will need a 128MB storage option too.
It worries me that Apple is rushing to get “NEW” products to market, but all they are doing is updating the spec sheet.
Not a very Jobsian way to move forward, I just hope there will be more interesting things coming in the future.

I bought each of the four iPads at launch. And this spec is one I wanted to begin with. But in the middle of this iPad 4’s product cycle, I’m going to see if I can wait for the iPad 5 before I buy my 128GB iPad.
And now we all want 256 Gb and 500 Gb options since 128 Gb has arrived.
Again Apple is first to offer this increase.
Why has the competitors merely copied Apples foot steps? Why did they not offer 500 Gb long ago.
Because Apple knows it’s numbers and supply.
The other companies are scared little sheep.
I think Apple pushed out this 128GB iPad option now because the Microsoft Surface Pro with 128GB was due to arrive at the end of January. I believe it since has been delayed by a couple of weeks. Because he next Blackberry 10 (this week) and Samsung S IV (by April) are coming soon, I think we’ll see an iPhone update before July. Apple has been trying to change up the product release schedule of late, to be more competitive.

That’s when you get a wifi hard drive with your required capacity. With more than 4 TB’s of media, I’d be a maroon if I set expectations for a portable media device with that much data storage. Perhaps a remote client could somehow help at that point?:
