Voice? Maybe.
But why do I have to maintain my Address Book, when almost everyone I know keeps their own contact card up-to-date on a Mac or iOS device? Why can't their title, employer, phone number, address, etc. be refreshed (with a history) in my Address Book every time they change it in theirs?

I agree. Several of the Apple apps could definitely be refreshed.

I also think it might be time for a radical change in the main UI. Rather than the single open app (with multitasking in the background) and the icon tile interface.... I think it's time for a revamp. Risky? Yes. But not doing it is more risky. With more memory and multi-core processors, the given iDevice should have enough power to handle some significant changes.

Yeah. The Podcast app. I'm grateful the current version actually works, as opposed to the POS first version. But yeah. It needs some help.

Bloated Apple apps? Yes. And that problem isn't isolated to the iOS platform. Apple have bloatware on OS X as well. Safari drives me crazy with it's RAM HOG behavior and its incredibly annoying Sit&Spin sessions for gawd knows what reason. The functionality of Safari is great! But what a bloated pig of a memory management mess.

Jony Ive is not a coder AFAIK. I can see him doing wonders on the GUI, however. My secret dream is that he goes 3D maniacal and helps guide us out of our obsession with 2D GUIs. Meanwhile, Apple requires someone to attack the legacy code, to subvert the object code, and modernize everything into seriously fast, efficiency and functionality oriented coding. Having my 4 core i7 CPU Mac Mini with 4 GB of ram slow to a crawl because of Apple background processes is NOT acceptable. I'm to the point where I'm going to integrate AppTamer into my personal protocol in order to STOP anything but MY priorities from running and getting in my way. That's drastic IMHO, but I'm hoping it helps with my work efficiency.

Many people here have their heads in the sand. Take the Podcast app: If I set it to keep only the latest podcast, and there have been 3 podcasts that day, it will download the first two and then delete them before finally keeping the last one.

Also, all of the Apple apps are unnecessarily bloated. I use the Kindle app instead of iBooks just because I don't have an extra five minutes each time I want it to open.

With Jony Ive taking a lead in interface, maybe his inclination for more simplistic designs will make Apple apps less bloated, but I fear he won't be much help in terms of making them competitive when it comes to features. Having a full-featured device is at odds with Apple's desire for simplicity of use. For example, my Nokia E71 had a blacklist in 2007.

Apple needs to leverage Address Book / Contacts to create a practically-invisible social network that's also the foundation of a brand new communications platform.

Like a LinkedIn/Facebook + messaging/voice.

Maybe Apple is just waiting for carrier subsidies to wane at some point before doing it. I think if there were no phone subsidies (everyone simply bought their phone at the actual price), Apple would map these kinds of functions into the iPod and be done with it.

Visuals of UI of Apple's software (Ive's new additional responsibility) has nothing to do with supposed issues iOS has in terms of functionality.

As to functionality itself, it can not go radically different, since iOS still the most intuitive comparing to what some think as "more advanced" Android OS.

I have seen many users that fail to know where Android applications go, or that there is even way to buy those applications -- simply because it is not as intuitive (yes, it is not that hard, but many people do not know).

In the latest rendition of BlackBerry OS, you have to know where and how to pull the screen, for example, to see the text of incoming message. Not everyone would guess that you have to try to pull on some points that are not pictured on the screen to make some action. It is just less intuitive, again, comparing to iOS -- even if it looks "cool" (same is with tablet version of Windows 8).

So Apple needs to be very careful with iOS' UI upgrades.
