NRA releases shooting game for ages 4+ for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch via Apple’s App Store

“The National Rifle Association, which has been critical of the gaming industry in the debate surrounding potential gun control legislation, has rolled out its own app where users can take target practice,” Bobby Cervantes reports for Politico.

NRA: Practice Range, a new iTunes app released Sunday by the nation’s largest gun-industry lobby, offers users a shooting-practice feature, tips on safety training and a state-by-state gun law database,” Cervantes reports. “The free app dispenses standard gun safety mantras before the user can begin to shoot: ‘Use only the correct ammunition for your gun;’ ‘Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting;’ ‘Know your target and what is beyond it.'”

The app, rated for ages 4+, is free, Cervantes reports, and with In-App Purchasing, “It costs 99 cents to upgrade your firearm from a free M9 to a Beretta, a Browning or a Colt — and it offers indoor, outdoor and skeet shooting modes… Last week, after meeting with Vice President Joe Biden’s gun reform task force, the NRA slammed the White House for its ‘agenda to attack the Second Amendment’” and video games for ‘the marketing of violence to our kids.'”

  1. NRA keeps on going on its criminal path… Normal: so much money flows from paranoia and killing.
    USA should better try to educate (and/or heal) the people. Perhaps that once cured, US citizen won’t even think about carrying a weapon around.
    To first look after the evil at the base would be perhaps better.

      What those statistics tell is that based on the total number of guns in each country, the U.S. murder-to-gun ratio is much better than the U.K.. Clearly, the U.K needs a lot more guns to discourage violence.

  2. Well reading these comments it is pretty clear what kind of people support gun ownership (ie. short tempered rude people!)

    From an outside perspective it is pretty strange that Americans are prepared to tolerate the murder of school children to protect their outdated “right” to carry a gun to protect them from invasion. The evidence shows that countries with very strict gun ownership laws are safer. The USA is a crime ridden country that caused a world wide financial crisis (their broken political system means the debt ceiling might paralyse the government for a third time), continues to pollute our planet ignoring the rest of the world as its obese citizens drive around in their gas guzzling cars eating fast food and shooting people. Shame because it used to be a country people respected.

  3. I know it’s very un-American but if you were to look around the world at countries with strict gun controls you would see that they have lower murder rates. That’s a just a fact. Imposing stricter gun laws in a country where gun ownership is so widespread and there are so many paranoid right wing religious people would be very difficult though. The USA also has a very short history and the constitutional right to carry a gun so citizens can protect themselves is a strange outdated notion but one that many hold dear. Unfortunately it seems little will change, so the kind of horrific attacks that we see will continue and must be seen as a side effect that Americans are willing to trade off against keeping their beloved constitutional right. To the rest of the world it seems quite crazy, but then when did Americans ever care about the rest of the world?

    Replace repeal 2nd amendment with repeal 1st amendment and see how far that gets you. My point is that if you support repealing the 2nd amendment right to bear arms, you should also repeal the first amendment, freedom of speech. What no? Then STFU. Lawful gun ownership is a right, and is here to say. More stupid laws will not stop criminals, they don’t listen or care about laws. And our incredibly ignorant and stupid politicians just don’t get this. Stop the feel good measures and put the blame where it belongs.     1. I think you misunderstand the culture. You guys just like to get drunk and beat the shit out of each other. We like to be able to defend ourselves with guns against the criminals who also have guns. And waiting for the police to respond in an emergency(robbery, home invasion) usually gets you dead before they have time to arrive. If you have a gun, you have a fighting chance. I agree that criminals that use guns are chicken shit pussies, but that is the reality here.

    FACTS:

    31,000 firearm deaths in the United States during 2005
    55 percent were suicides
    40 percent of all gun deaths were homicides
    3 percent of the deaths were accidental shootings
    2 percent of gun deaths, there was an undetermined intent or the shootings were legal killings, such as fatal shots fired by police officers

    CONCLUSION:

    Given that 95 percent of gun-related deaths are either suicides or homicides, public health researchers have come to the reasonable conclusion that in homes where guns are kept, there is a much greater likelihood that someone in the home will be killed by a gunshot either through suicide or homicide.

    Studies have also indicated that in homes where a suicide has occurred, a gun was three to five times more likely to be present in the home than in a home that did not have a suicide, even after factoring in all other risks.

  8. The true discussion isn’t about removing the 2nd Amendment. The problem is that people are using assault rifles for mass killing and the mass killing in an elementary school is the last straw to many. I wish the NRA was more sensitive to this but it appears to them that guns and politics are more important.

    We aren’t living in Colonial times anymore and we have no need for frontier type gun protection in the cities or where there is a police presence. However, we do have a right to protect our selves and property but abusing the privilege is a problem and assault weapons have no place in society unless there is a real zombie invasion but there isn’t. Instead we have psycho or self-righteous invasion with access to guns.

    BTW, there is nothing wrong with the NRA gun app, just their mentality.

  9. Remember: Question everything, be suspicious of your government leaders.

    Guns are designed to kill. Guns are a tool for keeping a repressive government in check. We the people are the government of the United States. NOT the politicians, NOT the police, NOT the military, WE the people are in charge of the government. The politicians should fear the people, not the other way around. Politicians love bureaucracy and will ALWAYS manipulate a bureaucracy to do what they want, pushing their agenda for self-serving purposes. Our forefathers knew that men in power can become corrupted and that is why they laid out limited powers in our constitution. They also knew that men could possibly corrupt the free press, the halls of Congress, and Nationalize our government. Leaving us no better than what they fought to get away from: An omnipresent leader in a far away place making decisions by fiat where the leader does not recognize or care if the decision infringes on your God given rights.

    To quote Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence;

    “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.     This was addressed to the king but Jefferson was making the point that this applies to all free men. We the free people of the United States are given the right to live freely by our creator. Because our Creator gave us this freedom no man can take it, and we have the right to defend it. The right to bear arms is not given by the government, but by our creator (God), therefore that right cannot be infringed upon by government. The second amendment reads; A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

    Militia as defined by Webster’s: a body of citizens organized for military service. Bear is a transitive verb meaning allow. Infringed means encroach upon.

    So this is what the 2nd amendment means; Citizens organized are necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and the government to allow arms shall not be encroached upon.

    Citizens are necessary to secure a free state!

    Jefferson was laying out the reasons that men may be righteously brought to force in the Declaration of Independence. That right was defined in the Constitution so that we the people may remain free, and if necessary preserve that freedom by the use of arms.

    The gun is designed to kill oppressors, criminals, attacking armies, or bureaucrats taking the rights (defined in the Constitution) of the people away. Our forefathers designed this republic to sustain bloodless revolutions of change (as defined by the laws in the Constitution), but reserved the right of the people to take up arms and continue freedom by force if necessary. Citizens were given the right to continue freedom by the force of taking up arms against its tyrannical government if it were ever deemed necessary, by the 2nd amendment. Citizens were given this right to continue the fight of our forefathers so that we could secure our own freedom. If you will remember that little fight called the American Revolution was anything but bloodless. The rights that we have today were fought for and many died for by Jefferson and his generation. The constitution was a covenant with the people of the United States by the politicians ensuring the peoples trust of them and acknowledging if they lost that trust it could be retaken by force.

    Yes guns are designed to kill, but if more of the good guys have guns than bad guys then we will continue to be a fee country. The right to keep and bear arms does not guarantee a perfect society; it guarantees the righteous the ability to deal with the unrighteous and continue to live freely.

    I may need an AR-15 (semi-automatic) military style weapon able to carry more than 10 rounds if I am facing an out of control government that has military to protect them that are carrying M-15 (FULLY-AUTOMATIC) military weapons with belts that carry more then 100 rounds to oppress me. How else am I to defend against this?

  12. The only purpose of guns is to kill (either animals or humans). As such, the only people who should have guns are farmers and law enforcement/military.

    If people want to shoot guns recreationally at a gun club, then they can leave the guns at the club under lock and key.

    Pretty simple really. What’s surprising is that so many Americans seem to struggle with this concept.

  13. What is reality was that much more people are saved by citizens owning guns than killed. That is reality. What if I told you if we don’t follow our Constitution than tyranny is inevitable — “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. The Constitution is the Constitution, if enough people want it change there is a mechanism to change it.
