“A number of resellers have run dry of Apple Thunderbolt Display inventory, suggesting the 27-inch monitor may be due for an upgrade, perhaps with a thinner design that takes cues from the latest iMacs,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.
“As of Monday, major resellers Amazon, MacMall, and J&R are all out of stock of the Thunderbolt Display. Stock-outs are often one of the first signs of a forthcoming upgrade to Apple hardware,” Hughes reports. “At the very least, the Thunderbolt Display is in need of an upgrade to its MagSafe cable. Apple currently ships a MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter with every Thunderbolt Display to allow compatibility with the latest MacBooks.”
Hughes reports, “If Apple is planning to bring the new iMac panel design to a refreshed Thunderbolt Display accessory, the new big-screen monitor’s arrival may not be imminent because of potential production issues.”

Hopefully the new ones are 5mm and flat (no tricky curved back). If so, I will be buying three of them.
New thunderbolt displays to coincide with the release of the new Mac Pro…(one can dream)
It is too small for a MacPro. Only a MacPro can handle 30 inch, and it is a real difference. I wish Apple would make a new 30 inch display or even bigger. For video and graphic design it can’t be big enough. A second screen is not the same as you then have to refocus the eyes all the times, it makes tired.
I still have an older 30 inch 2007 display but no kidding these 30 inch displays are so much better with video editing, VFX and graphics. I kept thinking monitors would get even bigger and to my dismay got smaller. Why are we stuck at 27 inches???
The resolution of the old 30 and the 27 are the same.
No, they are not.
30 inch – 2560 x 1600
27 inch – 2560 x 1440
The 160 more pixels vertically makes a big difference. One that I’m not going to give up.
I need a damn thunderbolt hub already.
Retain VESA mount, please…
Maybe they are redesigning the height of the display. I purchased a 27” iMac and Thunderbolt display. Set them side by side and the Thunderbolt display is about .5” lower than the iMac. Who came up with that flaw?

Oh really? And what about people with laptops who have the old MagSafe connector and want to buy a Thunderbolt display?
That said, the TB display is LONG overdue for an upgrade. I know I want one. 😉
About time.
will the new display include 2, 3, or 4 months shipping delay as part of the “Apple User Experience”????
Not quite. Any delivery wait time is part of the Apple BUYERS experience. 😉
TERRIBLE!!!
Where are the USB3 ports on the Thunderbolt Display already?
