An homage to the modern-day tablet, invented by Apple

“The modern tablet was reinvented in April 2010 with the introduction of the iPad,” John Kirk writes for TechPinions. “It’s now two years and 8 months old. No personal computing technology has been adopted faster than the tablet. And that’s saying something. The tablet is being adopted at almost twice the rate that the smartphone was.”

“The key to understanding why the tablet has taken off is touch,” Kirk writes. “Prior to the iPad, tablets used desktop interfaces. The genius of the iPad was that it used the finger – not the mouse or a stylus – as the primary user input.”

Kirk writes, “The tablet is the default screen – the screen that we turn to when we have a choice between it and a phone or a notebook. And that makes the tablet the future of computing.”

  1. Invented. ???? Apple invented the touch screen did they?? Is there no end to the bullshit. I think it was sony that invented touch capacity. But hey . Apple fans think they invented everything.

    1. Where does it say Apple invented the touch screen? Speaking of dip-shit, pull your head out of your Apple-hating ass and try reading instead of making assumptions.

Apple REINVENTED the tablet, but that doesn’t even go far enough…

Apple has forever changed what everyone thinks mobile computing is and what it is capable of.

    2. Every noteworthy invention builds on other inventions. The idea of that an invention has to be completely original is total fallacy. An invention not built with or inspired by previous inventions would be too basic or absurd to be really useful.

    3. omg.
can you pls think before you panic.
      don’t give yourself an ulcer.

apple does not claim to invent shit.
      no one invents anything.

the novelty is the new mix of old ideas or technologies.
so it does not matter who invents.
what does matter is who reinvents or makes things practical, affordable, ubiquitous and hopefully still aesthetic.

      apple does do that best.
use the latest innovations to “invent” new practical uses.

if you do not agree that apple iPhone in 2007 changed everything, as much as apple’s version of the mouse in 1984, as apple’s Mac PC in 1984, as apple’s iMac in 1998, as apple’s iPad in 2010, as, as, as…then you’re simply blind & ignoranus.

without apple’s visions all those other inventions/inventors you talk about to do not matter. apple not only made it all ubiquitous, but has the most loyal fans and switchers, and is the only co. in the Black (profitable) and even in hard times when the market anal-ysers do not get it & lambast it just for schadenfreude, AAPL is more profitable than many countries!

apple is not profitable for being stupid, careless, visionless, stubborn, manipulative, scared, non-inventive! if people like you are so smart, why are you so poor or insignificant in terms of lifetime achievements & changing the world?!

    1. @ tbone: Sounds like they invented “Civics Class” in the context of making everything work together… in your dreams! Just drop a word like “Obama” or “Limbaugh” and watch how uncivil things get around here! You’re an old-timer, you should know as well as anyone! 🙂

      1. You may call that uncivil. I regard it as an actual civics class. Democracy may be a mess, but it breeds ideas, movements, change…something one can only pray for in a curated forum or, more to the point, in an autocratic regime, where everyone is non-contentious only to avoid imprisonment.

  2. AGAIN this argument over INNOVATION and INVENTION.

Apple takes leading technologies and pieces together an INVENTION with the LATEST innovations.

Apple did not invent touch screens but they saw the inspiration early on with Newton… until newer technologies came – Apple was wise and quick enough to Capitalize on those innovations to Invent a Phone like no other dared to create.

Apple didn’t invent the mouse but they did innovated the mouse into a commercially success by also changing the world with a Graphic UI.

Finger UI has been Apples Second world achievement.

Voice UI with Siri will be Apple’s third triumph.

Adopting innovations and piecing together something entirely NEW is exactly what APPLE INVENTS.
