“A report popped up yesterday that Microsoft communicated to police earlier this week that there had been a burglary in one of the buildings on its campus in Mountain View, California,” Cody Lee reports for iDownload Blog. “The thief, or thieves, broke into 3 offices in Building 5 on the campus between December 19 and 26, when most folks were gone for the holidays.”
Lee reports, “The Daily Post (via Joshua Anderson) reports: ‘Microsoft reported that two iPad 2s, and two iPad 3s with a combined value of more than $3,000 were taken some time time between Dec. 19 and Dec. 26 on the company’s campus. A police report also said a fifth tablet — described as an iPad 4, worth $729 — was taken as well… No Microsoft products were reported stolen.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Smirk.
Cue the ultimate anti-theft case that makes Apple iPads look like Microsoft Surface tablets in 3… 2… (see related article below).

Ultimate anti-theft case makes Apple iPods, iPhones look like Microsoft Zunes – July 16, 2007
guess they wanted originala only!
This just in: Security camera video shows the suspects pulling Android tablets out of a small bag and leaving them behind.
Are you sure this wasn’t an Onion story?
Can’t be. In an Onion story, Microsoft products would get stolen and Apple products would not.
I hope nobody believes the story. I mean I know fanboys are gullible but that would be a stretch even for them.
Sorry! I would rather my iPad or iPod be stolen rather than encase them in a Surface or Zune looking case.
Oh that is so sad. MS POS stuff is not even worth stealing anymore.
Anymore? When was MS stuff ever worth stealing?
(Brought to you by Carl’s Jr.)
And a new advertising slogan is born:
Microsoft, making products that even thieves pass on.
Microsoft—Security through obscurity.
Doesn’t even need to be “obscure” in this case. It’s simply undesirable… 🙂
Security through unacceptability.
Security through absurdity.
More like Security Through Being Absolute Shit, or STBAS for short.
would make a great ad for , “Mission Impossible” theme, agents break into top secret Microsoft research lab..agents high five each other upon finding iPads instead of Surface pads, fade to black, logo then a “click” SFX.
Microsoft, the WOW starts now!
As soon as Steve Ballmer found out that researchers had flouted his explicit ban of Apple products, he sent his plumbers, a mysterious black ops group, to rid his campus of the poisonous contraband.
No word if G. Gordon Liddy was involved.
meaning no disrespect for the disrespectful mr liddy, but, didn’t he pass on a few years ago?
He only retired from radio last September
He has a face for radio.
he is still around, I’d tell you where but then G. Gordon would have to kill us both.
I am searching on Amazon now for a Zune-like case for my iPhone5.
Truly funny! Microsoft just can’t catch a break.
At least they can now upgrade to iPad4 across the line in this particular office, should make for happy employees 😉
Most likely they have different versions on purpose for their research needs.
In a side note Bill Gates’s kids have been arrested for breaking into those offices. Kids even rich ones will do what they have to to get iStuff.
I can’t believe that Bill would even allow Apple gear anywhere on campus.
Microsoft is an iOS developer. I suppose they could sequester their iOS developers off campus, though.
Not even one ZunePad RT was stolen? Say it isn’t so. I think if Microsoft were to leave its retail stores unlocked overnight, nothing would be stolen. Well maybe some diehard Windows fanbois might grab an armful of goods.
Funny how a company with as insecure an OS as Microsoft is known for can now just use its name as security from theft (except pirated copies of its bloated main products).
If they left their retail stores unlocked, I’d RETURN junky old Windows boxes to them. hahaha
Good reason why there is no “Find My Surface” app…no one wants to steal it..
“Yo Snake, let’s steal some iPads!”
“From where, man? Security at the Apple store’s too tight…”
“Damn. Yer right. We gotta hit some place that’s bound to have Apple’s stuff but don’t got any security. Can ya think of anyplace like that?”
“Nah, ain’t no place like… Wait a sec. Of course! Microsoft!“
M$ will need to repurchase the iPads. That will put more sales into Q2.
How about the tagline, “Microsoft … Suffering from delusions of adequacy” ?
That campus is an Apple software development facility. So not really a giant surprise that no Windoze
Same is true for iPhones in NYNY. Business opportunity in 2013: invent iPhone cases that look like Win8 Phonie phones. No crime sprees in NYNY & helps Bloomberg with “high crime” stats.
When I was in college, a computer lab was broken into. None of the Windows computers were touched, but all the Macs were gone. This was back in the 90’s when Apple was probably at its lowest point, so even then Apple gear was still more desirable.
did they ever catch you

Chuckle! Chuckle!! Chuckle !!! …. Laughter!!!! … Zzzzz!
I would imagine it’s pretty hard to fence something as rare as a Microsoft tablet. 😉

Ok, so google wants know the current build status of ms office for the ipad.
And now they know.
I’m sure S. balmer will soon organize a heist in the redmond office to create theft marketshare.
