“Apple has formally announced the 2013 Lucky Bag sale for Japan,” MacNN reports.
“The event will take place January 2nd at Apple Stores, and offer a bag costing 33,000 yen (about $390 US) that will typically include a random assortment of products like cases, headphones, and/or an iPod touch,” MacNN reports. “Some bags, though, will contain a high-ticket item like an iPad or even a MacBook Air.”

On Jan 1st, the Japanese will queue up for their bucket of chicken from KFC and then on Jan 2nd they will queue up for Lucky Bags at Apple. Marketing at the M$ Store will not be outgunned. Lucky shoppers will get a Surface Pro in a plain Zune brown bag at this year’s sale on Feb 29th.
whoops — not Jan 1st, the tradition is Christmas Day @ KFC in Japan.
Camped Out, MS store visitors definately wont get outgunned, especially if Machine Gun Kelly is performing in the MS store 🙂
So will the retail value of these bags be equivalent to the purchase price? I’d hate to think they are paying $390 for $50 worth of merchandise, just in the hopes of winning an iPad or MB Air.
Many Japanese companies do this traditional Lucky Bag sale. If Apple were selling crap for big money we would have heard it years ago.
Given its a great company Apple in a great country Japan, I would happily buy the $390 bag, confidant that it is good value, it has to be worth more then that, otherwise its a PR disaster for apple in a major market, market that also supplies apple with many high tech components. In a nutshell there is nothing to fear, saying that I am curious what this goody bags have inside. And remember, on top of hardware, apple can easily fill it with plentiful itunes voucher (no loss to apple) and make a great value for the buyer
