Wall Street Journal capitulates, deploys Apple’s In-App Subscriptions in new app version

The Wall Street Journal has updated its main iOS app to support in-app subscriptions,” iPodNN reports.

“Until now, the only way of getting full content was to pay for an outside subscription and log into the app,” iPodNN reports. “The new scheme lets users pay $22 a month through the app for a regular WSJ subscription, or $13 for mobile-only delivery.”

iPodNN reports, “The Journal has, notably, been one of the few remaining publications to hold off on in-app subscriptions… Apple retains 30 percent of all revenue from in-app subscriptions, as well as all customer billing information…”

MacDailyNews Take: It’s quite the simple decision, especially for the WSJ. The users with money and the proven will to spend it are iOS users. Publications either get with the program or they’re left out in the cold.

Game, set, match. Apple wins again.

      1. Awards are usually assigned politically.

Take Oscar for example. How many crapy movies have won over alternative works.

Take Nobel Peace Prizes for example…..OBAMA???, Europe???

        Judge for “yourself”!

        1. I’m not sure what the quoted article has to do with WSJ (other than Rob Enderle). Also, check BillD‘s comment. Walt has consistently been objective (praising Apple whenever it deserved it).

    1. GeoX, Walt Mossberg does tech analysis for the Wall Street Journal. He’s well respected. Mossberg was born the same year I graduated from high school. But for some years he’s looked older than me. 🙂

The Wall Street Journal has very solid news coverage. Obviously, it’s especially strong on financial and business news. The editorial opinions are on the conservative side, which is fine by me.

    2. Rob is introduced as WSJ Tech Analyst (not reviewer) every week on the Wall Street Journal This Morning Radio Show with Goedon Deal. Same nutty conjecture that comes from the renound Enderle Group and the WSJ guy eats it up like it makes sense.

  1. I had the WSJ app for several years and it worked well. Was going to renew but will not through Newstand. The reviews on the new scheme are brutal. Plus you could get a deal on the price if you tried. Not now. And I doubt any of the complainers ever read the Journal.
