Child labor again found at Samsung phone assembly plant in China

“China Labor Watch (CLW) has once again discovered child labor in a partner factory of Samsung’s called HTNS Shenzhen Co. that assembles Samsung cell phones,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.

“This comes just two weeks after Samsung stated that it did not find any child workers while auditing this factory in September,” Purcher reports. “Treated the same as adult workers, the underaged girls worked overtime hours in excess of 13 hours per day and were paid overtime wages below the legal standard.”

    1. It’s a double standard and Samsung is not nearly as interesting a target as Apple who has to be scrupulously perfect in it’s business dealings. Busting Apple has become sport with any small deal calculated to keep their stock down. No one expects Samsung to be perfect and in fact shady doings from them are as expected.

  1. It is my understanding that Samsung doesn’t care if its shops use child labor. ShameScum won’t change a thing unless they are pressured by the public.

    Whereas Apple does care and has done more than any other country to force fair and safe labor rules onto its third party manufacturers. Apple were actively improving standards at Foxconn long before the press went mental on Apple about it. The same goes for Apple pursuing ‘green’ standards long before Green Peace started ripping on them. That’s one reason I’m an Apple fanatic.
