Jury: Apple, LG not guilty of infringing Alcatel-Lucent patents

“Apple Inc. and LG Electronics Inc. didn’t infringe an Alcatel-Lucent SA unit’s patents for electronic devices including phones and computers, a jury said,” Bill Callahan reports for Bloomberg News.

“The verdict today came after a trial that began Nov. 27 in federal court in San Diego over a 2010 lawsuit by the Paris- based company’s Multimedia Patent Trust accusing Apple and LG Electronics of copying video-compression technology that allows data to be sent more efficiently over communications media, including the Internet and satellites, or stored on DVDs and Blu-Ray disks,” Callahan reports. “Alcatel-Lucent’s attorney, Frederick Lorig, asked jurors to award $172.3 million in royalty damages from Apple and $9.1 million from LG Electronics. Apple was accused of infringing three Alcatel-Lucent patents and LG Electronics was alleged to have infringed two of the patents.”

Callahan reports, “‘We are very pleased with the verdict,’ said Apple’s attorney, Juanita Brooks. Kristin Huguet, a spokeswoman for Apple, declined to comment.”

  1. Hah! Sorry, but……
I have dealt with Alcatel-Lucent twice in the last 5 years.
I really liked the equipment. Seriously. Maybe not the best, but great for what I was looking for.

Still….their business model was so inflexible, so rooted in ‘meetings, discussions, dealings, questions that ‘might need to be dealt with in a different light…’

You know, when you go shopping for something, ask some questions and want some answers, and you keep getting the runaround for 4 months while ‘different angles are analyzed’ you finally tire of the bullshit and don’t care what they have to offer anymore.

Inflexible, old-school, roundtable consensus group-thinking bunch of businessmen killing what’s left of a once great company.
