“Apple has given iTunes its biggest overhaul since 2003, when the software — originally just a jukebox for Macs — was made available for Windows computers and the built-in iTunes store was added,” Walter S. Mossberg writes for The Wall Street Journal. “I’ve been testing this major new version, called iTunes 11, and I consider it a significant improvement in the look, feel, speed and function of the program, which had become somewhat bloated, sluggish and dense over the years as new features were added.”
“The venerable program is now brighter and more colorful, with clever and pleasing new capabilities and faster search,” Mossberg writes. “There is tighter integration between the library of media that resides on your computer, and media stored in Apple’s online iCloud service. Streaming from the cloud has been expanded. The store has also been made cleaner, simpler and easier to use.”
Mossberg writes, “Apple has made iTunes better and easier to use, and veteran users who upgrade will gain from the new features, if they take a little time to get used to them.”

I know it’s been said that its a revision and not a rewrite, but I have found it to be less laggy and less flaky at maintaining connection to iTunes match.
While it overall is cleaner and less bogged down, the process of choosing and putting songs on my ipod manually is way more annoying, and every time I wake the computer from sleep it gives an error disconnecting it from my Airport Expresses. So I’m torn. Overall improvement, but also daily annoyances.
Bring the sidebar back and its much easier to put media on iPod etc. Can change in view menu.
Liam — I found that annoying too, and was looking in View and found you can choose to have the Sidebar showing.
Duh. Thanks!
I’d like to see a return to the black background in album view.
There’s a lot missing. Find Duplicates really needs to make it back in. And no volume control on the mini-player? That’s terrible.
Duplicate finding back soon

No volume control on the mini-player, but click on the artwork of whatever’s playing, hover on the window and the controls appear
You’ve done it once again!! hannahjs.
Hi ChrissyOne!
Thanks!
iTunes 11 still doesn’t play nice with big libraries. It’s definitely better than previous versions but for those of us with 80,000+ tracks (the result of years of legitimately collecting vinyl and CDs and transferring them to iTunes) performance is woeful.
=:~)
Disagree with him…
Miniplayer hobbled, Coverflow DOA, dreary looks.
Mind you, Apple have form – iPhoto has gone the same downhill path.
easier to use ?????
honestly, itunes 11 is just eyecandy. it is freezing a lot, and memory hog. it causes something that fan runs loud unnecessarily. especially, when I try to check box in iphone music section, it just doesn’t react, hang, freeze a long time. I force to quit it. it’s more like damn bloatware. I mean windows version. what the wrong is that there is no 64bit version. it says 64bit when I download. but it is 32bit. apple seems to kill safari, itunes, all apps slowly. do you know if they would do? PC users and iphone users (from PC) will turn off. all of sudden, iphone market share will drop the bottom. nobody will buy it anymore. apple should know it first if they still want to stay in business. mac users are very small number which is not only in US but also in the world. don’t they realize it?
