Apple has released iTunes 11.
It is currently only available via Software Update (which will bring up the Mac App Store in OS X Mountain Lion) not via “Check for Updates” in iTunes 10.7.
The update weighs in at 198 MB.

MacDailyNews Take: Schnappy!
[Thanks to MacDailyNews readers too numerous to mention individually for the heads up.]
d/l’in now 😀
Thanks MDN
First impression: I love the clean layout and the “Up next” list. It makes me want to revisit and actually use iTunes various features again (such as podcasts and radio among other things).
The radio stations are the most underrated (and unknown) feature of iTunes. GrooveSalad (in Ambient) is my favorite.
Whisperings Solo Piano Radio
Yay to the death of the sidebar!
Yeah, um… it’s not dead.
View > Show Sidebar
oh lol!
No sidebar, no chance of me migrating. The good old-fasioned Sidebar with one handy list of playlists & sources is infinitely more important thank store links and cloud crap.
Ditto
The sidebar is optional in iTunes 11 so don’t stress out.. I welcome this option and don’t plan on using the sidebar again.
Yup, sidebar can now be toggled on or off.
I am LOVING the new iTunes, it feels much more responsive and iTunes Match is blazing fast now.
Aye, the new look is shite and why the heck is the sidebar BOLD?
It forgets which view you’re using when shut down (at least half the time).
Why fvck around with something when it’s great? (Heck, Apple don’t mess with their hardware successes)
How the heck can you “migrate” back to the previous version??
ITunes 11 sucks balls
Didn’t know it had that feature too! Wow! iTunes rocks.
bada boom : )
Thanks for the heads up, this is going to be very very interesting.
Interesting, yes. I think I’ll wait until after the first patch before I install this major upgrade.
Interesting. My Apple TV is also updating
What OS version is required? I am running 10.6.8 and iTunes update does not show in App Store Updates on my computer.
Same here }8-/
Never mind. Got it via Software Update. Not the App Store.
I’m on 10.6.8… it’s there – under software update 🙂 197mb
Got it – thanks! Preliminary review: It looks so much better! Old version was a joke.
DL: 198 MB.. Looks Awesome!!
New mini-player is sweet!
Snow Leopard is supported!!!
I’m so happy 😀
so far… COOL AS HELL
I found it under software update. Not the App Store, hello.
Very nice, Apple TV update allows streaming from iTunes Match.
Just downloaded iTunes for Windows from Apple’s web site. Said it was version 10.7, but when I installed it, it was iTunes 11. So far I’m liking it! Really fast!
Very nice, much more streamlined….
Unbelievably cool. Seems PERFECT. And it’s so speedy, too. Amazing software, Apple!!!!!!
Yeah, but can you finally select multiple playlists?
Sheesh – pops forward for every app that is updated. Can’t it just quietly download those updates and shut up about it?
Well so far so good. I can organise my library as per the previous version with multiple nested folders and the like. I was worried that Apple would dumb down this aspect—they didn’t.
They’ve even brought a bit of colour back too.
=:~)
+1
I like it, much cleaner but you can still pull up the old sidebar if you like.
Some may call it….Snappy!
Great Job, Cook. Just like you didn’t check national monuments like the Statue of Liberty, you didn’t check the “Whats new in iTunes?” link. It plays an ad for the new iPad instead of anything about iTunes. Do any of you people at Apple even double check your work at all? Jobs would have your job for this. Cook, playing nice apologetic guy is lowering Apple’s standards…kick some butt like Jobs did.
NEVER COMPROMISE!
iTunes 11 SUCKS! The new interface is clean, simple and TOTALLY CONFUSING! My favorite feature, the “Genius Playlist” function is hidden and broken. Someone PLEASE tell me how to get the old iTunes back!
Just click the triangle next to the song name that is playing and pull down to create genius playlist..
I don’t see the triangle you described but there IS an arrow in a circle although it doesn’t have a command “create genius playlist.” If I bring up the contextual menu, there is the ambiguous “Start Genius” but IT DOES NOTHING.
Right below Start Genius is create Genius playlist
“create Genius playlist” does not show up anywhere in any menu, and I’ve been looking now for an hour.
Put your cursor on top of a song. Then you will see a little arrow pop up. Go there. Took me less than one third of a second to find it.
Nice – separate volume controls for multiple Airplay speakers… Cool
This was always part of the previous version.
They had that before…
Okay, once I figured out how to restore the list view on everything, and get the sidebar back, where, oh Apple, is the Radio? Checking the button in the Prefs is possible, but it never shows up. This means I’m very happy I experimented with this before putting it on my home machine- the Radio section is where I spend a good deal of time, and it’s gone in iTunes 11.
You’re right… It no longer appears in the sidebar. However, I see it when I select Music (under Library) in the the sidebar, and then look over to the right on the row of “tabs.” There is a “Radio” tab there.
Ah- but I’m hanging back until I check this out at work, where I loaded 11, before I commit at home. Are all the stations still there?
Seems like it. However, I don’t use this feature that often, so I can’t tell if any specific “station” is missing…
They’re all there, and I’m getting used to 11. Do I like some things? Yeah, the cloud integration is a good thing. The fact that one can get it back to ‘regular’ list views (personally, I hate CoverFlow and icon views- I have thousands of files and CoverFlow is a waste of time and window space.)
But it ain’t a major update until there’s a new Visualizer. That one is getting really tired….
One feature that seems to be missing is the ability to open something, such as the iTunes Store or a playlist, in a separate window. That was useful for me…
Otherwise, it seems to be fine. If you make it “Show Sidebar,” it generally works like the old iTunes, which for me is a good thing.
I haven’t been able to find the “Show Duplicates” control. There was a free download of the iTunes Holiday Sampler, which I took advantage of, but I wanted to check and see if I already had them.
Checked “Help” but couldn’t find. Has anyone tried this?
Their icons just get more cryptic by the minute.
There are some strange page layouts when browsing music store – lots of “D16” and definately not what it should be looking like.
Seems like a bug in the software?
