Will.i.am debuts line of hardware to supercharge Apple iPhone

“The Black Eyed Peas star and entrepreneur Will.i.am is well known as an evangelist for new technology,” Georgia Dehn reports for The Telegraph. “Next week will see the global launch of his iPhone hardware, which he claims ‘will turn your smartphone into a genius-phone.'”

“The first product from his new consumer electronics and app venture i.am+ is an accessory that clips onto an iPhone and transforms the eight megapixel smartphone camera into a 14 megapixel camera, which it is claimed dramatically enhances the clarity and definition of your photographs,” Dehn reports.

Dehn reports, “The camera will be the first of a series of digital products that bear his name – to support them, he has invested in what he calls ‘digital real estate’ online. He now owns the domain www.i.am. Users of i.am+ accessories will be given individual online profiles, for example www.i.am/Will.”

      1. Wasting his money on things he knows nothing about.
Probably some ‘manager’ or ‘investor’ friend helping him spend his money.
What idiot is going to mount a 14 megapixel camera to their 8 megapixel camera phone?
        Destined to failure.

        1. How do you know that he has invested anything at all? I wouldn’t be surprised if someone approached HIM and he is getting paid to put his name on it and promote it – making it seem as if he is the mastermind behind it will automatically equal some sales, as he does have a rather large fan base apparently, based on their record sales.

I’m not a fan of his music, but he definitely gets a lot of work.

        2. It sounds like this is the first in a line of upcoming products. Regardless of whether this one product does well, hitching your pony to the iOS train is smart business sense.

  1. The envy here is disgusting. What have any of you done? Spend a little more time building others up rather than tearing them down and maybe this country wouldn’t be so screwed up.

  2. will.i.am might be one of the most maligned cats in the pop culture landscape. I don’t get it. He never claimed to be something he wasn’t. He’s a hardluck kid from Compton, CA–back when Compton was truly dangerous and gang-ridden.

Did he sell drugs? No. Was he a blood or a crip? No. Did he make music glorifying ignorance, violence, etc? No.

He started a dance pop hiphop band, becamse one of the most successful and influenctial producers of the 2000s and jumped into technology back when all most artists were doing was posting annoying bulletins on Myspace. And political persuasion aside, his pro-Obama viral videos remain the most watched videos in political history.

He’s a smart guy who’s evolving into tech. What’s so wrong with that?

Besides, what about Ashton Kutcher screamed “high-end cameras” or “Social Media/Twitter guru”? Yet somehow we found a way to admire what he did…

Maybe will.i,am needs to become a dope dealer to be more “authentic” to some of you.
