Jury convicts New York man over AT&T-iPad hacking

“A federal jury convicted a New York man on Tuesday of hacking into AT&T Inc servers and stealing the email addresses and other personal data of about 120,000 Apple Inc iPad users, a U.S. attorney in New Jersey said,” Jonathan Stempel reports for Reuters.

“Andrew Auernheimer, 27, was convicted by a Newark, New Jersey, jury of one count of conspiracy to access the servers without permission, as well as one count of identity theft, said U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman,” Stempel reports. “The defendant faces a maximum five years in prison and $250,000 fine on each count. A co-defendant, Daniel Spitler, pleaded guilty to the same charges in June 2011 and is awaiting sentencing.”

Stempel reports, “Prosecutors said Auernheimer and Spitler were affiliated with Goatse Security, a group of Internet “trolls” that tries to disrupt online content and services.”

    1. Those ‘losers’ developed the UNIX at the core of Mac OS.

      From Wikipedia
UNIX™ is a multitasking, multi-user computer operating system originally developed in 1969 by a group of AT&T employees at Bell Labs, including Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan, Douglas McIlroy, Michael Lesk and Joe Ossanna.

OS X is based upon the Mach kernel. Certain parts from FreeBSD’s and NetBSD’s implementation of UNIX™ were incorporated in NeXTSTEP, the core of Mac OS X. NeXTSTEP was the graphical, object-oriented, and UNIX-based operating system developed by Steve Jobs’ company NeXT after he left Apple in 1985.

        1. True dat

Just saying that they know quite well what to do. Apple has been hacked and that doesn’t make them losers. The guy posting could have been hacked and not even known it.

        1. Wikipedia has a decent track record on most things and is the most widely used encyclopedia in the world. Content that is not properly attributed and verified is marked and then removed. They have stepped up their game on this front.

  1. Omg. Look up we’ve and how he “hacked” AT&T

It’s a JOKE. There was zero hacking going on. If anything his talents solely came down to writing a script. Thus, he’s a script kiddie basically. Get it?
