If Apple can make NFC and fingerprint scanning actually reliable and safe, then great! Until then, I have no interest in either. Both have been taken down as crap technology.

As a daily user of AuthenTec SW and a UPEK ( a company merged with AuthenTec previously) Eikon fingerprint scanner, I ask Apple why have they discontinued sale of the product? It harms not one person or project at Apple to continue to sell the USB Fingerprint scanners and software unless you plan on integrating it into future Mac keyboards.

I always thought Apple was more interested in using face recognition for security over fingerprints. Maybe they’re up to something else completely?

I think it’s about new touch gestures:
If the touch screen can resolve finger prints, then it is possible to detect a finger rotation (drilling) on the spot.
