“An airport worker has been accused of being the less-than-master-mind behind the theft of $1.9 million in iPad minis from JFK Airport, court papers revealed yesterday,” Hilip Messing, Mitchel Maddux and Josh Saul report for The New York Post.
“Federal agents were able to nab Renel Rene Richardson because he allegedly made suspicious inquiries to co-workers about the gadget shipment and where forklifts might be found, according to court papers,” Messing, Maddux and Saul report. “The iPads were stolen Monday using an airport forklift.”
Messing, Maddux and Saul report, “After the FBI arrested him, Richardson accompanied the Port Authority detectives on Wednesday night as they searched Long Island for the truck, law-enforcement sources said. It is unclear whether the iPads have been recovered.”

3,600 new Apple iPad minis worth $1.5 million stolen from JFK Airport – November 15, 2012
It’s been my experience that dealing with ATA employees and other ground services shows the “wisdom” of delegating these services to the “low bid”. Of course he got caught!
+1
He should be put on a chain gang and he should have to break a rock got every single dollar worth of merchandise he stole.
Only after all the rocks are broken should he be released. And then only with a tracking devise embedded in him.
naw…just shoot the dipshit…
Over theft over electronic devices? Gimme a break. He’s a thief, not a murderer/rapist/molester.
Far worse greed-based crimes happen on Wall street.
Shoot them too.
This makes me kinda sad. Was hoping they might have used 3 mini coopers to make off with the minis and been pursued thru the alps!
Thanks for the laugh. Yes, hopefully they will use The Italian Job as an inspiration when planning future Mini heists.
It takes rare genius to steal something that the minute it is turned on broadcasts a signal telling the world its serial number and location. Surely Apple can locate their own devices. This guy is right up there with all the other geniuses who you see on court TV shows.
A single bullet to the back of Renel Rene Richardson’s head and dump him off side of LIE. Case closed. Total cost: Less than a dollar (bullet)
From Gambino family?
All proving crime DOES pay since this guy traded in a paying job & freedom for a nice cell with 3 squares a day in the taxpayers. The simple life at last.
I forgot to mention he will have all the free involuntary sex he could not want but will receive anyway.
…would that action would happen so quickly where Samsung is concerned…
Its New York, that guy is just a low level associate in a Mob crew, he’s the sporting goods store owner on the Soprano’s who got rolled.
Hope those iPads speak Italian!
Bastardo e figlio di puttana. Tua mamma ha appena finito di succhiarmi il cazzo. Che gran troia!
He should have taken the forklift instead.
“An airport worker has been accused of being the less-than-master-mind…”
Indeed, this effort was mini-minded.
Maybe Apple should turn on “find my iPad” before shipping.
AAPL maintain list of all devices’ S/N, IMEI, and other identifiable numbers. I assume AAPL can just black-list the stolen iPads.
One more thing… I just hope that Renel Rene Richardson guy is not directly related to Scott Forstall in any way. 🙂
Find my iPad?
